He definitely hasn't

I love being able to shoot in 4K resolution on my GoPro. Videos are fantastic. There will be more and more streaming services switching to 4K but it will probably still take awhile for the market to catch on

at any decent viewing distance your eyes can't tell the difference on a 40" screen between 1080p and 4k.

So I shouldn't run out and buy that 43" Vizio 4k I had my eye on at Costco? My Samsung is dying a slow painful death.

unless you plan on sitting 2-5 feet from it you won't be able to tell the difference between it or a 1080p screen. If you can find a cheaper 1080p, i'd go with the 1080p.

There is more to consider sometimes. I got a Vizio 4k tv because it wasn't much more expensive than the 1080p, and it had a much better color profile. So while I may not have much 4k content, other aspects of the picture are better than the 1080p model that wasn't much different in price at the time I purchased it.

I personally am not a big 4k believer yet, but I did get one. I'll be elated if we can get live football in actual 1080p.

I recently bought a Samsung 65" curved 4k tv from best buy for 2299.00 and love it. It has uhd upscaling so it makes 1080 look pretty damn good and colorful and screen is bright as hell. You can stream 4k on you tube and Netflix as of right now and Dish network is supposed to be workinng on a UHD capable DVR box where they will stream UHD content.

BanaHater has stumbled onto the answer, albeit more than likely unwittingly. The porn industry has always been the leader in terms of adopting new standards of streaming, video equipment, cameras, etc. All the other content producers typically fall in place behind them due to their sheer strength in terms of disc sales, whom none could compare to.

The last time there was a big, market shift in tech is when the porn industry chose Blu Ray over HD DVD.

The problem with 4K and porn and the slowness to adopt, adapt and upgrade is that a leapfrog in content delivery is occurring.

Google, Amazon, Apple and smaller players like Netflix and Hulu are rendering disc sales and physical possession of a copy of the content you wish to consume irrelevant. The CDN's (Content Delivery Network) they've created online make discs less necessary for consumers as streaming threatens to make discs obsolete.

Porn content producers do not have the mainstream backing like the CDN players do, so for the first time, mainstream players like the heavyweights above are calling the shots re: content production standards. On the bleeding edge, nobody knows exactly what's next because there is no consensus or standard of what the next jump in resolution of picture quality will be.

Sorry for the ramble. Just finished my first cup of coffee.

I've heard from a friend that the porn industry has already moved to 4k 60FPS streaming. I wouldn't know though.

I've been told the NFL has been upgrading to 4K cameras and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Super Bowl in 4K this year.

Pretty sure satellite is the only cost effective way to provide a sufficient amount of 4k content. So if your a 4K junkie - better get your satellite subscription

Does the curved do much for you? That always seems silly to me but maybe I'm wrong.

Curved is a preference, not a necessity. I can't justify the hate for them other than to assume those without curved TVs don't enjoy hearing that others feel they may have a superior television, so they bash them.

I personally like the ones I've viewed in person, but I probably won't ever buy one.

Curved TVs seem like they limit the range of good viewing angles, and it seems like the extra money would be better spent on a larger or higher quality flat screen.

Also, the focal plane of most cameras is flat, so a curved TV will introduce distortion, right?

A limited range of viewing angles would vary by individual circumstances, but I'd assume if you've got a wide enough viewing range, it would.

As per distortion, I haven't noticed any, but you could be correct.

Good Jesus. So I'll never buy a 4k TV then. My den is pretty large and our couch sits about a solid 10feet away from the TV hanging on the wall.

If that graph is true, I'd need a 140inch TV and that would damn near take up the whole wall.

As stated, look past the 4k vs 1080 and at the other specs. Then factor in the price

The graph says that at 10 feet, the benefits of 4k start to become visible in the 80-90" range. You wouldn't see the full benefit until 140", though.
