Gio Reyna only played 12 more minutes than Jesus Ferreira in the WC.
That is all.
That is all.

Shaq Moore played 20 minutes over Scally.

Reminder: Gio Reyna was pretty clearly not 100%. Even in his sparse minutes he was not moving well out there.
Also GGG played him all the time in qualifying. Do we think he suddenly doesn’t rate Reyna anymore? I just don’t understand the logic.

Agreed. He wasn’t moving well, was not making turns and in behind runs like he was at BVB.
He also wasn’t going to overcome a tactically inferior setup against a tactically superior coach.
I’ll never understand Shaq Moore other than, we just don’t have depth.

Aaron Long, Christian Roldan, Jordan Morris were on the WC roster.

Shaq Moore was on the roster. And played.

Haji Wright played 30 more minutes than Brenden Aaronson.

Gio runs funny.
After reading that twitter thread yesterday about the context of Gregg getting hired in the first place, it’s hard not to look sideways at the MLS inclusions and playing time.

They play different positions

Man I really wish we would have experimented in the Gold Cup, Nations League, Qualifying, or friendlies with Weah as the 9. No chance he would have been worse than Haji or Jesus

We started 0 MLS players against England. Take off the tin foil hat.

Thats cherry picking the data.
The question is generally whether Gregg gave MLS players preferential treatment at any point, not just in this tournament and certainly not just in the starting lineup for the England game. It’s hard to believe that you don’t understand that.

Come on man, at least be intellectually honest about this.

If the theory is that there is some mandated quota for MLS players to play on USMNT, I promise you, it's not me that's not being intellectually honest.

That’s a straw man. Come on, man.

Other than Zimmerman, the majority of the MLS players were hardly used (Morris, Ferreira, Acosta, Yedlin and Moore) or weren't used at all (Long, Roldan).
The fact that those guys were on the roster is more about our depth issues, not some MLS conspiracy. It's not like there was some dude in Europe who clearly deserved a spot over them (inb4 Pefok and Pepi, there was nothing clear about any striker in the pool).

So I'm wrong to assume that you think there is an MLS mandate?

2014 World Cup: 10 of the 23 players were from MLS with 7 of them logging one or multiple starts, and all but one played (Nick Rimando)
2022 World Cup: 9 of the 26 players were from MLS with only 2 logging one or multiple starts, while 4 others came off the bench at one point or another (Roldan, Long and Sean Johnson never played).
Jurgen Klinsmann, MLS homer.
