Pefok has been built up to be this sacred cow by a large portion of our fanbase, many of whom I suspect don’t watch him play. I last saw him in Union Berlin’s EL match and he was mediocre at best. Work rate was not good, touch was so so. Hold up play is his strong suit but he’s not as good as far as pressing, passing, etc. Also, prior to those last 6 games, he was finishing at a higher clip than expected. He’s regressed to the mean now. Honestly if I had to pick any striker to start in tSystem (hallowed be thy name) it would be Sargent. I really hope he makes the roster.

Don't forget guys, JF is all world because he had 3 goals against Grenada! And he fits the system!

All of our strikers are pretty basic. I don't think any three that we pick will be any better than the guys we leave off. All of the 9's in the pool are more likely to not score than score.

At least Pepi and Ferreira have potential, whereas I think what Pefok is now is what he will be for the rest of his career. The question with Ferreira's USMNT future is if he is even a #9 or more of a winger or #10. I really have no idea what to make of Sargent.

Sargent is the closest thing that we have to a complete striker. He is able to hold up the ball well, is good at passing, decent on the dribble, and can take a shot one v one against a defender. He is good with the ball at his feet and at his head. He has an incredible work rate. If in form I think he’s our best 9.

Weird tangent but ok

Ferreira is ok. I don’t think he has a high ceiling. Gregg likes him for his pressing. Until recently, he was our only striker actually putting the ball in the back of the net.

That's a positive tho, you'll know what you're getting and right now what he is been better than what we've seen from the others.

Hell, I just wish our team could get 12 shots in 6 games or whatever that clip said

I mean, what we've seen from Pefok in a USMNT jersey hasn't been great.

Again, I'm not saying the others are better, I'm saying that they all are incredibly mediocre.

Haji Wright has been scoring at a good clip since August 2021, same with Pefok.

Sargent’s been good since going to the Championship.

The only guy who has turned it on in the last month has been Pepi.

I wish Gregg had given Haji a better chance than a half against El Salvador away on a sloppy field. That said, the competition he plays against in the Turkish league isn’t great. Aside from the big teams I would say it’s probably lower competition than MLS, but you are a better judge of this than I.

Chris Richards still out with injury for Palace... I'm beginning to think he doesn't make it to Qatar.

Zack Steffen with 4 saves in a clean sheet today. Highest rated player in the match.

At this point, besides Richards, I am very happy with our injury and form situation.

It is a huge improvement from three weeks ago.

Pulisic, McKennie, and Pepi are in better form.

Gio, Jedi, Musah, Carter-Vickers, Steffen, and in a limited sample size, Weah, are all back from injury and have no rust.

So unless I’m missing someone, we have Reggie Cannon injured and Luca de la Torre getting no minutes. Those were two of the last guys coming to Qatar anyways, so I can live with that.

But that leaves one huge hole in our lineup in central defense.

I figure if Richards is out, we will start CCV alongside Zimmerman, and then bring two of the following between Aaron Long, Erik Palmer-Brown, and Mark McKenzie.

Thoughts?

McKenzie has been the best player this season for Genk, who are currently in first place.

We should start CCV, but I’m so scared Gregg starts Long.

Even with Richards out, we have a couple of solid LCB options in CCV and McKenzie who are both playing at an incredibly high level for their clubs right now.

If Long starts, we're fricked.
