Tessman missed his penalty in the shoot out. It was too close to the keeper and was saved.

Transfermarkt says he was in Atlanta United's academy before moving there in July 2020 on a free transfer.

The club's website lists his name as William Cole Campbell LINK.

Venezia win 9 to 8 in the penalty shoot out. Tessmans miss not a factor.

How does this work? I saw the score was 3-5 at one point but they continued the shoot out.

Venezia defeat Frosinone at the Copa Italia in a shootout (8-7) after a 1-1 draw. Tanner Tessmann made his club debut and played the last 38 minutes (33 touches, 17/23 passing, 3/5 duels won, 2/2 tackles, 2/3 long balls but missed his shootout penalty)

I think whatever you looked at was wrong. FotMob shows the score being 4-4 after the first 5.

Portland has been in the league since 2011 and the only teams with as few or fewer homegrowns are Nashville and New England.

Seems like that would be more of an indictment on New England then considering they are one of the original 10 MLS teams.
