I haven’t sourced this..

WC vs NBA Qtrs

Doing pretty well for not having the US or Mex playing. And no prime time.

80% of the whole country

Great numbers for bad times for a lot of people who would watch. These are also numbers without a marquee name for non soccer fans.

Who are marquee names for non fans?

Just Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar?

Or do we go down to include Kane, Pogba, and some others?

I would guess the average American sports fan has no idea who Kane is, and a low percent know of pogba?

Modric has been a beast. Even as a casual fan you should know him.

The 'I only watch the World Cup' fan probably only knows Messi and Ronaldo, and he might think they're the same player.

What's his source for that?

And what does NBA playoffs mean? Which game.. what time... what day...

4.5 million seems like a pretty small audience fwiw.

I would be average joe sports fan knows Messi, Ronaldo, and maybe Neymar. I curious if more US sports fans know who David Beckham is than Messi or Ronaldo.

And that doesn’t include Spanish language broadcast.

Messi and Ronaldo are likely household names.

Neymar and suarez are probably next tier just because they made headlines last World Cup. I think I remember the old German guy's name. Mueller.

All of the rest of the names people may know have retired. But a few have made a name for themselves this World Cup.
Modric, mbape, pogba, cavini, lukaku

Hazard, de bruyne, courtois,
Griezman, giroud,
Coutinho, willian
Kane, stones

I've had to tell multiple friends that are casually watching who he is. They ask if Croatia is any good, and I go into detail about Modric and Rakitic being big time players while Mandzukic is pretty damn good as well.

i'll admit i thought he was older than that too. i thought at least in his 30's.

kind of like jozy. to me it feels like he's around 33 instead of 28.

I couldn't tell you how old any of the players are. Nor do I really care. I just remember him being in last world cup, and he looks old as frick on TV.

He’s been in three world cups already and was very prominent even in 2010. I agree he looks old for 28.

Arjen Robben must be a real mind frick for casual fans.

Unless you follow non-world cup soccer, your memory fades over the 4 years.
Right now, I can remember most of the group stage details (especially the A/B members of the Round of 16), and all of the matches and results after the RO16.
But ask me in a year.... who the hell knows. Much less 4 years.

I started really watching in 2006. But it's mostly world cup.
Outside of being able to name most of the teams in England, Italy, and the other big boys. I can't tell you anything about how good they are... or who's on the teams.

It's alot like the olympics. During this timeframe, I go all in. After it's over... See you in 4 years.
