With how close Courtois was to him and how hard he was coming it's actually a really tough chance, the problem was with how bad he missed it.
He really should have tried to play it to Dempsey but it all happened so fast I'm sure.

exactly. i, personally, would not be bitching at him relentlessly if he bombed it off of courtois' chest or face or something. id be disappointed that he missed a chance, but it would be nothing more than a missed chance which happens all the time.
my other issue with the scenario is that the whole reason wondo is "good" or "worthy of a roster spot" was apparently because he will find himself in great situations and capitalize. oh and because landon donovan should have been the person taking that chance.

All he had to do was just redirect the ball to Dempsey, downward. Or just put the F'ing ball on goal. Ugh.

Because the ball went out of play, a goal kick and offside have the same result. Basically, the center waived off the offside call.
If you watch the clip, the AR had his flag raised before the ball went out. Only reason for that would be to have called offside.
