And Charlie Davies was on his way to be the perfect foil for Altidore and then messed his life up.

I wonder if people overrate what these two could have been. Altidore's career progression has definitely not gone the way many thought it would. And how good was Davies really? Not trying to be cynical here. I'm asking because I don't know.

I 100% believe that we could have made the semi-finals with a pre-wreck Davies.

Me too, 2010 had no offensive firepower. With Donovan, Bradley and Dempsey in midfield, they were begging for a striking tandem to feed.

He was pretty ok in all seriousness. He was a good foil for altidore which made them a formidable tandem. But Davies was also the type of guy to just dribble it out for a goal kick once or twice a game.

how so?

Just bc the EPL is not the league for him.

Great pace, great at pressing defenders and could be lethal in the box. No jaw dropping finishes but he got the job done.

He was the perfect player for Jozy to work off of.

Jason Kreis, in my estimation, never got a legitimate shot,,or long enough spell to build any kind of international form. He was a beast for Dallas Burn.

Or La Liga. I know he was very young at the time, but it still counts.

He wasn't good in England or Spain. That's really the only evidence we have on him playing in a top class league.

To be fair, he has been really good for the US against some good/great teams.

He was a kid who probably wasn't ready.

Well he isn't a top class player. That and look at his two stints in England. Both with shite clubs who struggle to score and battle relegation. His lack of chances and then blowing the ones he had killed his confidence.

Jozy is not built to play hoof ball, he needs some type of service and players to run off of him when he holds the ball and distributes. That is why he excelled so much in Holland.

He could have been a 8-12 goal player for a mid tier to lower end Bundesliga team bc of the style played in Germany.

I agree. And I hope he gets a chance to play in Europe again. He can light up the MLS for the rest of his career but I'm afraid he won't get the same credit as he would get by doing it in an elite league.

mmmmmh, it counts alright. He was in the perfect club and academy for what he needed. That said, he never did well enough to even dress out.

It´s not because of his Spanish (it´s very good).

I think he had a work ethic problem, and I think both sides over estimated his technical prowess.

Do you get alerts to your phone or something when anything Spanish is being discussed on here?

I was implying someone might overlook his failures at Villareal because of his age at the time. I wasn't discrediting La Liga at all. Chill out my dude. :)

Kreis is reasonable.

You could probably throw Roy Lassiter and Taylor Twellman in there as well.

I think, with all three of those, it probably wouldn't have ended much differently than it did for Wondo.

So, where did this land? Armas?

Jeff Cunningham is another guy to add to the list.

Cunningham is a good choice as well. He was nuts, though.

He took that "you want your striker to be selfish" thing to a whole new level.

I thought he was going to get a crack in 2010. Bob Bradley took a look in late 2009, and he played well in a couple of friendlies. He tore somebody up (Denmark?) with speed in one of those games.

I think Buddle and Gomez having a hot start in 2010 put them to the front of the pack, and as terrible as Robbie Findley is/was - he would at least play another position (wide midfield) if asked, and take some sort of direction that would help the team.

I could imagine Cunningham's response if you asked to play something other than striker. If it was anything other than "run at people and try to score" he wasn't interested.
