What happened to the ideal plan is to have 4 points?

we have 4 points, just like everyone had hoped for. Maybe it is not the way we wanted them, and may feel a little deflated, but we have 4 points. This team seems to have the it factor, i think we can beat Germany and start wrecking shop. Everything pre-wc was to get 4 points in the first two games and see what happens on the last day.

What happened is we led heading into stoppage time.

I'm with you though. America is not a team I'd want to face right now. We beat Ghana and played well tonight without arguably our best player in Altidore. If we can advance to knockout and get Jozy back the stage is set for us to make a run.

I think most people are happy with 4. It's just disheartening to lose that way. Also, most people were expecting Germany to take care of Ghana, but a draw brought much more trouble for the US. We're still sitting better than Ghana and Portugal, but it's just knowing we were 30 seconds away from being in the knockout stage and it can be hard to readjust to the original mindset.

If you told me before the world cup that we had 4 points and in this position, I would have been ecstatic. It's just the way the last game ended, we fricking had it ;_;

I think we all logically know that but to have it wrapped up and snatched away at literally the last second is fricking hard to swallow.

I think if you had asked us beforehand if we would be happy with a win over Ghana and draw with Portugal we would have all said yes but damnit we dominated 90% of the match today and we had the win in our hands!!!

The heart wants what the heart wants. My brain knows this is a good position but my hearts keeps crying, "WE HAD IT!! BY GOD IT WAS RIGHT THERE!"

But onto Thursday and Germany! I believe!

4 points was ideal also but Germany was supposed to have 6 points. The Ghana factor is really what worries me.

both Portugal and Ghana are counter-attacking teams, which cause problems for both teams.

It's not the results it's the way they happened.....going in I hoped after 2 games we would be on 4 points and Germany would be on 6, instead we should be the ones with 6. It sucks but I still think we get through

The biggest thing for me is not the last second goal. It's that Germany didn't beat Ghana. If one of their shots in the final 5 minutes went in, we'd already be through, essentially. Now we have to look out for Ghana against an injured Portuguese squad.

of course it sucks, but i think this will help us in the long run. It shows that you have to play the entire time and finish.

Wanting 4 through the first 2 games is the only reason I didnt break a whole bunch of stuff. LOL.

The others are right about Germany/Ghana. The odds are in our favor to still advance but it would be academic if they would have won today. When they didnt that made the draw even tougher to deal with. Having 6 and already qualified while Germany (4) and Ghana (1) would have to worry. Portugal (0) would play spoiler. We could also win the group with a draw vs Germany instead of having to win.

The thought of the USMNT winning the group of death with 7 or a perfect 9 was a possibility. Having to wait and sweat it out is pretty shitty after the way we played.

I am not crazy right when I was arguing with my friend saying we played better than Portugal, even in the first half despite being down 1-0?

we definitely outplayed Portugal, the only problem was they had the best player in the world, and all it took him was 15 seconds to make a play.

Nit crazy at all. We were much better than Portugal in the first half.

We were a little better than Portugal in the second half.

Soccer can be fickle. Usually it rewards the better team with a win, but not always. We were lucky against Ghana and unlucky today.

It was until we were 5 seconds from having 6 points.

That was a short 27 seconds from the time we kicked it back off to the end.
