Don't pick stoke city. That's my team and I don't ever want to have to pretend to be your friend if we meet at a bar.

I always love these "I'm a bigger fan cause I chose them at this time for these reasons rah rah" arguments. The guy's just looking for a team and didn't ask for a pissing contest.

To OP - English premier league I'm sure will be easiest since it's more available on TV, but there is good football in other leagues (Germany, Italy, Spain) that is available if you're willing to look for it.

With that said, I think your best bet is to just start to watch some games, see if certain teams catch your attention beit through style of play, fan support/atmosphere, certain players, whatever. Then you can always look into more specifics on each team on the internet and all that.

The World Cup isn't bad to check out too to see players from all over the world that might catch your attention. Then from there you may want to look into their teams and check them out.

Freaking this.

I'm sure I'm considered a bandwagon Citeh fan. I chose them simply because I liked the way Carlos Tevez played. I started watching them and then became hooked by the play of Yaya Toure, Vincent Kompany, David Silva, and Sergio Aguero.

In the run up to WC 2010, I started watching Premier League Review Show and that familiarized me with the teams and players. I knew nothing about City or the "controversy" over all of the Arab money. So big fricking deal. It didn't hurt that they were a top 6 team. I also liked the play of Jimmy Bullard of Hull City , but he got injured (and he was a head case--as Tevez turned out to be )and Hull City got relegated until this season.

City's dramatic win of the Premier League with the last kick on the last day of the 2011-2012 season gave me one of my greatest sports moments as a fan with the exception of probably the Warren Morris home run.

OP: Just start watching a lot of soccer/futbol/calcio/football and watch the recap shows like ESPN FC, Premier League Review Show, and Match of the Day (which is actually a highlight show of all EPL matches that day). You'll find someone to root for.

Thanks evrybody for chiming in. I thought about Man U just because their rivalry with City intrigues me, but I sort of don't want to jump on that bandwagon.

I did choose them for career mode in FIFA, but I had no clue how to play yet so I never got to play for them just kept getting loaned out. I played twice for Coventry City. Aren't they the next league down?

Chelsea have always had a big american fan base. Throw in also their run of wrecking shop in the EPL when it started getting big in the states.

Royal Blue looks so good.
Jose Mourinho.
Always Competitive.
Stylish (though not entirely succesful) history.
Great place to visit if you ever wanted to see a match.
The Bridge.
Traditionally Rowdy Group of Fans (though this can be said for most all clubs).
Lack of Serial Divers.
The Most Captainlike Captain, along with Stevie G, in Europe.
They're not Man United. (biggest "bandwagon" of all)
They're not funded by terror money. (City)
They're not managed by a wanky specialist in failure. (Arsenal)
They don't have a history of despicable fan behavior or Luis Suarez. (Liverpool)

We were Africa FC in our prime, I would think a bunch of Africans being captained by an avid racist wouldn't work out to well.

Have you played FIFA yet? I wouldn't jump on a bandwagon, before you have a chance to virtually play with them.

Some. I jumped into career and sucked. I went with Man U because I didn't really know who else to pick, then got loaned out to Yoevil Town and Coventry City among others

They suck, but you definitely do begin to feel like you know the players once you've been playing with a team for a while

Andddd, now I can't find it

Arab Oil Money... Russian Blood money... Stick with owners from the Good Ol' US of A

There are plenty of those in the EPL... but since it has been determined we are all bandwagoners, mights as well get on the one that is on top now... Liverpool Football Club!

And next year, European nights back at Anfield, the envy of all across Europe!
