USMNT vs Panama on Sunday has sold ‘more than 6,000 tickets’

This is laughably pathetic. I know it’s a friendly, but every USMNT match i’ve been to has been on a work night and Dallas still managed to bring a solid crowd, even all the way up in freaking Frisco.
I guess not making a World Cup and having zero European players in the camp makes the team completely irrelevant.

MLS camp this time of year is always meh

In Arizona, on a Sunday, 6PM local time, with a team of only MLS players in a state without an MLS team, still ~4 years away from the World Cup, and the opponent is Panama.

Crazy how London sells out every single NFL game at Wembley without having all English players on the roster and the closest franchise being across an entire freaking ocean.

Cheapest ticket is $32 in a large nfl stadium. They should be practically giving tickets away to this thing.

McCaig’s analogy doesn’t make much sense. A better analogy to the NFL in Europe would be European teams coming here, and when they do they sell out massive stadiums.

Cheapest ticket is $41 and they aren't even selling the upper deck. It's ridiculous.

You clearly don't read my posts.

Why would they schedule a Jan camp friendly in an NFL stadium to begin with?
Posted on 1/26/19 at 4:15 pm to McCaigBro69
I'll be honest, I would not be going to this game.

Cause us soccer is foolishly hoping a bunch of Panamanians will show up.

God forbid they stick with stadiums with established soccer fandom nearby in their city.

6,000 is still not excusable
ETA: For comparison, when Camp Cupcake played Panama in 2015, attendance was 20,271 in Carson, CA. In 2011 against Chile in Carson, we drew 18,580.

I agree, but US Soccer didn't do themselves any favors.

LA also has a much larger population than Phoenix.

Phoenix is one the ten largest US cities by population. That’s not an excuse.
Pathetic showing, but it definitely should have been at a smaller venue.

The thing that hurts soccer in the US the most is playing in North America. Who is going to get excited about a game against Panama? Or Costa Rica? Or Jamaica? Or Nicaragua? No US citizen believes those countries are even in the same galaxy as us, and I mean just in general as countries, not in terms of soccer prowess. We don’t compete with our peers. If we regularly played against European teams and the games meant something, soccer would take off here, I think. But geography, which has blessed us over the centuries by keeping us safe from foreign invasion, has fricked us when it comes to soccer.
