USMNT First Golden Generation Appreciation Thread

I posted about this in another thread, but I think it deserves it own. While, I don't want to think about this just yet, the World Cup for the United States will come to end at some point and with it, the last holdovers from the first real crop of players our first ever "golden generation".
One of the great by-products of the 1994 World Cup, was a new league and a revamped developmental program. We first started to see these results in the 2002 World Cup with the inclusions of young players such as Landon Donovan, John O'Brien, DaMarcus Beasley and Steve Cherundolo.
That same generation saw even more players break in during the 2006 World Cup. Guys like Clint Dempsey, Bobby Convey, Carlos Bocanegra and Gooch Onyewu. By 2010, the bulk of those players were the unquestioned leaders and Beasley and Dempsey have continued that into this World Cup.
It's been fun watching soccer in this country grow with those players and it will be just as fun seeing the accomplishments of those guys influence future generations.

Those are my boys.
I miss Dolo, Boca, and Cakes so much.
I'm sure I'll grow to love this next generation - Jermaine and Fabian already have captured my heart - but that's the group that brought me to my USMNT fanhood and change is hard, y'all.

none of those guys rely on speed like landycakes though. strength and heading don't go away with age, so drogba and klose can still ball. pirlo has always been unathletic. he's the outlier of outliers.

Well, there's a long list of suitors for Jurgen's talents as there has been for years.
Re: Donovan - I heard Rob Stone this week on somebody's podcast (Bill Simmons?) and they were talking about Beasley and his transition to defense. Stone said that if Donovan ever wanted to, he could transition to RB and would be able to play at a world class level for at least five years. Outside of the bubble of internet soccer nerds, Landon is widely respected for his vision and intelligence and hasn't been seen as just a "pace" player for 10 years.

JK is entrenched in the USMNT, not just with the senior team, but with the youth development as well. By getting out of the group of death, he is untouchable in terms of the media here. No point in bolting for Europe where he could be heavily scrutinized.

There may have been a touch of sarcasm in my post. It will be interesting to see if he gets any interest abroad. I can't really remember any real interest after Bayern Munich until we came calling a couple years later.
