Rapinoe should have stayed in. Also, we need to gender tests on the japanese players.

Came out from halftime with a big icepack on her ankle. Sprained it early in first half but kept going. Swelled up on her during the break...

The fact that you're even debating whether 1 of their players could break our starting XI says all there is to say about the gap in talent and athleticism between these two sides. Not to mention, the USWNT has superior coaching and ridiculously nicer training facilities. They are the better team and would win 4 out of 5 matches which makes this even more disappointing.

I haven't watched too many of their matches but they really struggled against Mexico in one of their friendlies before this tournament.

That was just one of many they struggled in... It just happened to be televised a little more than the rest.

What are you confused about?

She turned it over twice when they were up 2-1 and trying to kill the ball

She gacked on the free kick try

She gave a supremely shitty effort on the PK

I am not blaming her but damn she had a shitty 20 min and I would have preferred an exhausted Rapinoe over Heath in retrospect

I don't think I've ever posted anything seriously here.

I assume others do the same.

eta: I didn't post anything racist fwiw. Just giving people the benefit of the doubt.

US went conservative TWICE and gave up the lead TWICE. Gotta stay aggressive.

We were overly aggressive on the possession before we gave it up to Japan and they equalized in ET.

115th minute, entire Japanese team in their half, and we're trying to build a formal attack. We cough it up, they equalize, massive failure.

We were tactically stupid.

Not that it factors in to whatever we seem to be arguing - but Japan has a lot younger team than the US does. We'll be seeing far more new faces on the US team over the next few years while Japan has a solid core.

Or this could be a "time and place" tourney for Japan. I see a LOT of similarities between this WWC and the Saints Superbowl run. Japan did place 3rd in the Olympics last time up - so they aren't exactly coming from nowhere.

Exactly. We were trying too hard to not play too conservatively.

She was brought on as an attacking sub. She did better than O'Reilly did.

No, she took a difficult shot and it was deflected.

Better than Lloyd's and Heath shouldn't have taken the shot. That's on Pia.

Sarcastic racism/nationalism is a board staple.

Yea, passing the ball back and forth in our own third trying to kill the clock ended up not being the greatest strategy...especially when we got great shots pretty much at will the entire game when we played aggressive.

Oh, no doubt. They were ranked 4th in the FIFA world rankings coming into this World Cup. And I think I had posted and came in on the middle of y'all's convo. Even though we play completely different styles, it's possible that one of their mids could start got us.

It really only gets bad when either of the US teams has a deep run in a tourney. By the time Celtic starts up in a week and Liverpool in August, it'll be back to good times...hopefully

I blame Wondo. He Sebo's the sitter from a yard out. Then it spread to Deuce. Now the USWNT. It's time to lynch him.

If we'd sufficiently done that in the 115th instead of trying to drive through their entire XI the outcome very likely would've been different. Another 2 minutes would've been down, and they'd be opened up.

There's nothing wrong with keeping your foot on the throttle, but an only slightly more conservative approach over the last 5 and they win.
