Yeah man, Barnsley was awesome to watch this year. Fantastic flowing football.

I wish our wing options for this tournament weren’t so horrible. How bad was Ariola’s injury? I’m in Italy right now and I wasn’t staying up to 230 in the morning to watch the garbage C team.

I know this wasn't directed towards me, but I like doing it anyway.

GK (3): Steffen, Horvath, Turner
DEF (8): Dest, Cannon, Yedlin, Robinson, Brooks, Long (if healthy), McKenzie, Richards
MID (6): Adams, McKennie, Musah, Lletget, Acosta, Clark
FWD (6): Pulisic, Reyna, Aaronson, Weah, Dike, Sargent

Starting XI would be:

Steffen
Dest-Richards-Brooks-Robinson
Adams
McKennie-Musah
Reyna-Dike-Pulisic

Style of play doesn’t correlate to high quality

Or vice versa

There has been plenty of MLS team playing free flowing football but it’s quality was shite bc it’s just attacking and nothing defensive wise with them or the opposition. Fun to watch but not very high level.

He was selected for the roster. Zimmerman was not.

Someone else can correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Zimmerman was hurt for Nations League, or had some other reason he couldn’t play. Even if not, that could’ve simply been part of GB’s plan to play more European players for Nations League and more MLS players for Gold Cup, and doesn’t necessarily mean GB rates Miazga higher.

What about Matt Turner?

I mean this is only his second cap, he needs to earn it over Horvath and Steffen

You included him in 23 in a later post.

He has played every MLS match this year sans the weekend his kid was born/he got married. Can’t remember which, but the point is that he hasn’t been injured. He just wasn’t called in.

I went last night. I’m not a huge soccer buff and I’m not on the same level as most of you in here as far as knowledge. They were close enough for us to make the trip though. I thought I’d add my 2 cents though.

Family had a good time. Great weather outside of the intermittent sprinkles from the sky. I sat in a section that had a pocket of Haitian fans. They were fun. Overall, pretty ho hum. The rocket off of Busio’s foot was right in front of us. It was a beautiful thing! Dike is a friggin’ tank. Really glad Vines’ goal found the net. I anticipated that one pretty early. I was screaming yeah about a second and a half before it went in. I would’ve had some egg on my face if it didn’t work out.

Our left side attacks were non existent. I don't recall Lewis, Lletget, and Vines (other than finishing the goal) creating any opportunities to score in free play. Everything was from the right side with Morris and Acosta being heavily involved in most of the attacking play.

I thought both of the CBs played well.

Fair enough. I still don’t believe there’s any conclusive information that indicates Miazga is meaningfully ahead of Zimmerman. Again, given the MLS and European schedule dynamic for the two competitions, I don’t think the selection of Miazga for the NL definitively indicates GB rates him higher than WZ, either then or now. And as noted, Ream and McKenzie played a ton while Miazga barely played. That says something.

I thought Lletget was fairly anonymous, and Lewis just doesn’t have the quality to be playing at this level. Other than the goal, pretty mixed performance for Vines, but how much do you chalk that up to the poor play on that side and the new partnership with Robinson behind him? I still like Vines, but also think Bello needs a chance to show out.

Yeah, doesn't mean I think he's ahead of Horvath and Steffen.

Nope, you're thinking of either Long or Richards.

Zimmerman just wasn't picked, but then replaced Miazga and started in the Costa Rica friendly right after the Nations League because Miazga was getting married.

Lletget completed 100% of his passes (69/69, nice) and created 4 chances.

IIRC, all four chances were from set pieces. He did a good job with those.

Edit: He did not make any mistakes but outside of set pieces did not do much.

One came from a cross during the run of play right before half (Zimmerman header). Also had that nice little flick that resulted in a close shot, but was ruled offside.

I hope we get to see Hoppe against Martinique. Of the guys on this roster that didn't play, he and Bello are the most intriguing in that they both play a position of need in our player pool right now.

I just hate the fact that if we see him, it will be on the wing instead of the 9, because Gregg is channeling his inner-Jurgen and thinks anyone can play the wings.
