CCV misses out after picking up injury with Tottenham, no Zelalem either.

No Brooks or Yedlin. Can't see that defense holding up well against Columbia.

Evidently Brooks and Yedlin are needed in the WCC against Guatemala. So Jurgen Klinnsman probably blocked it.

He did. I saw a quote about it. He's confident our U23 guys get it done and insists that Yedlin and Brooks are needed with the full national team. Anyone else think that this is fricking regarded? Guatemala is terrible and our Olympic team has clearly been struggling. Missing out on the olympics two cycles in a row (both under Jurgen) would be a disaster.

Both Brooks and Yedlin need to be with the senior team.

Agreed. There's no need for them to play down to possibly get a team into a competition. They need the first team experience still and them playing with the U23's does nothing for their development.
If our U23's who aren't senior team ready can't qualify themselves, then they don't deserve to be there anyways.

Hold up. I'm not buying that playing freaking Guatemala in a relatively low-stakes WC qualifier is going to do sooooooo much more for their development than a high-stakes tie against Colombia. Even with the age difference.
Getting the U23s to the Olympics is quite important for the future of the national team, and you've got to remember that they would get three overage players in Rio. It's not like these lowly U23s who wouldn't deserve to be there would be flying solo in the Olympic tournament anyway.

You gotta bring in most of your best players for WCQ. With Johnson most likely unable to play, Yedlin has to be included. With our lack of quality CBs, I'm definitely bringing in Brooks.
Guatemala may not be a good team by any means, but 1 point separates the top 3 teams right now. We HAVE to get at least 4 points over these next two games.

That seems extremely nearsighted for what's at stake, but I'm not one of the resident national team experts.

We barely got out of a similar group back in 2012. We only got 4 points from two games against Guatemala then. Do we really want to sweat it out on the last day again? Let's win the next two games and the game in St. Vincent and coast into the hex.

I don't know how much of a choice Jurgen really had, because the clubs didn't have to release them for olympic qualifying and probably wouldn't have while they have to for world cup qualifying

I'd put money Hertha didnt release Brooks when they are fighting for Champions League. Yedlin on the other hand i could see the need for him to be with Senior team Brandon Vincent will be fine imo. Kieswetter and Morris can hopefully drag this team to Rio. I hope Zach Steffen gets the start in goal but will prolly be Horvath who led his team to Europa league.

Going to take more than just those two to get through Columbia.

Didn't even think of him... I know he is 17, but shite, if you can hack it on Dortmund's first team, surely he could hold his own, even excel, at the u23 level.

We still seem to struggle when we go down there. I say call up Yedlin and Brooks for the second leg of the Olympic Qualifier. Probably explains why we called up a 26 man team.
