Better than last game, but even cautious optimism scares me at this point.

Definitely a good performance. JJ had a great game and played his heart out. Also big props to Fab and Brooks. Both were very solid in the back, and Fab was an animal, played with confidence and made some good runs on offense. Dempsey anchored the offense and created opportunities. Bradley didn't have a bad game, but I wish he were more involved in the offense.
Even though he scored, Wood frustrated the hell out of me. He just doesn't seem to know what to do once he has the ball a lot of the time. That push he gave was also stupid and he should have been given a yellow for that. Not sure how he got away with it

Costa Rica was shite. The second and third goals would have been saved by a decent keeper.

Not quite as good as the score indicated.

Zardes was fine tonight

The defense is good enough to get us to Russia.

I stayed up to 3am for this shite

Well you missed Zardes' defensive work rate then. He was damn near box to box as a forward all game.
You take the bad with the good. His touch was poor tonight but he was certainly blue collar.

Zardes is fine in games like these. His athletic, chaotic play tends to create chances against shite or just average teams. He's useless against teams that are clearly better than us.
Why didn't Nagbe play? Bedoya is not necessarily killing us, but I feel like inserting Nagbe and adjusting the formation a bit would make a massive difference.

I had hoped we were past the point as a soccer nation when we praised a forward only because he played defense well.
It's one thing if he's a second half sub and meant to help protect the lead, but the guy was a starter.

Will falsely allay concerns re Klinsi's tactical illiteracy

Midfield was much more cohesive when not asking Jones to man mark someone out of a game and letting him thrive in his role.
Brooks was imperious

I thought we showed good resiliency and finished our chances well, but did have trouble dealing with CR's high press, which worries me considering we won't be able to exploit better teams on the counter as easily as we did Costa Rica should they choose to employ a high press against us

It's counterattacking soccer. I hope we are NEVER past the point where we praise forwards for their defensive work rate.
Also, box to box is just as much about transition as defending. Again, massive within the US gameplan.

Agreed. It just doesn't need to be the only thing we can say he did well with.

See what happens when bradley plays back in the midfield.
