I would bet that teams would be more aggressive than they were if you did away with shootouts, then they would know that the game will not end unless someone scores.

you can't play 120 + mins

so scrap that idea

If that's what it takes sure. It's better than arbitrary penalties and certainly better than giving a rip about where the goals are scored.

Fluke goals happen all the time. It's far less fluky than penalties.

. However, it was widely thought that golden goal rules encouraged teams to play more defensively to safeguard against a loss. Teams often placed more emphasis on not conceding a goal rather than scoring a goal, and many golden-goal extra time periods remained scoreless

So the exact same thing as what happens now when the inferior team tries to hold on to so they can have a chance in the penalty lottery. At least in Golden Goal they know at some point they have to score.

So every other sport in the world can keep playing except soccer?

Why can't you play 120+ mins?

what are you talking about....

After the 30 min golden goal extra time it still went to pens. B/c both sides were too defensive.

bc that's never been part of the game and never should be

those other sports like hockey and basketball which keep going in overtime the players get a break with rotating subs and such

apples to oranges

I'm in my early to mid 30s thank you.

Yea I get it, it would be hard but there's your incentive you attack.

I'd be fine with adding extra subs every 10 min or so but yes the game should be played until someone scores and wins it.

Not by penalties and certainly not based on where a certain goal was scored.

Why should it "never be"? It would be unquestionably better than what we have now. How can you argue penalties or away goals being a better tiebreaker than one team actually winning the game by playing the game as it was designed to be played?

This thread is full of stupid. Leave it to Chelsea fans to whine about something to fit their narrative.

Thread had nothing to do with a narrative, it's about legitimizing the results of the game. Chelsea has won and lost in ET and in penalties on the biggest stage multiple times so it has nothing to do with Chelsea.

so now you are talking about completely changing the rules of the game. I do think a 4th sub should be added for extra time. But one every 10mins wtf??

Whats next, no offside rule ??

this is turning into one of those threads when people from the MSB come over here and tell us how to make soccer more exciting

How sports determine their playoff winners:
MLB: Best of Seven Series
NBA: Best of Seven Series, Shorter Time Limits in Overtimes
NHL: Best of Seven Series, Added Golden Goal Rule
Football/Soccer: Best of Two Series (If That), Score Accumulates, Away Goals Rule, an Additional Thirty Minutes, then Penalty Shots.
American Football: Best of One Series

Any guesses as to why I put these in this order?

Well I can't speak for the OP and why the thread was started but my opinion have zero to do with Chelsea. You know the team who lifted a European trophy on penalties?
