4-2-3-1,
Pulisic, Weah, Reyna/Aaronson with the other playing as a 10
Adams and Acosta/Musah
Same back four.
Give McKennie a rest and bring him in the second half if you need, and having Musah/Acosta gives you some help to break up Iran’s counter and let Dest/Robinson get forward.

You only give him a rest if he's actually injured, not because you are trying to preserve minutes.

It may take a set piece to win against a bunkering opponent, so for that reason alone we need McKennie on the field.

Holy shite, I didn't even see this.
Under no circumstance do you play Acosta in a match where you need to score goals.

True, but the melt here would be unlike anything we’ve ever seen on TD, possibly more than 1-9-12

SCH would legit have an aneurysm

We're in knockout mode for the rest of the tournament. Under no circumstances do you rest your best players for any game.
Best hope is to go up 3 goals as soon as possible and then rest your main players.

Musah has been pretty meh to me so far. Not terrible, but I had high hopes for him entering the tourney

4-1-2-3
Dest/ Zimmerman/ Ream/ Jedi
Adams
Musah/ McKennie
Pulisic/ Aaronson/ Gio
Sub in Weah if someone looks tired. Maybe start Sargent for Aaronson to wear them down and put Aaronson in as an earlier sub.

One of the most glorious days in history!
Also would be our best formation.

I don’t see McKennie having much of an impact against a bunker team like Iran if that’s what they plan on doing. I think you’ll be better off with Musah and Adams and a 10, than MMA.
McKennie is fantastic in transition, but he’s not a creator. I’d rather play with a 10 and bring Weston on in the second half if necessary and let him sit in the box trying to finish something off.

I think you have to start Weston. He is good in the air and on set pieces. England’s first three goals were from two crosses and a corner.
The last three goals were from individual play driving up the right side then cutting into the middle. That screams Jordan Morr…er….Gio or Weah

Turner
Dest-Thor-Ream-Jedi
MMA
Weah-Gio-Pulisic
Aaronson supersub.
ETA: this is the type of urgent match we could use Pefok’s head

Will wait for Broski’s pending approval.

Yea that was the exact question/discussion posed in some of the roster prediction threads. You need a goal in an arse ugly game against Iran to advance - who do you want in the middle of the scrum.
Maybe Sargent or Wright or Feirera come through but I wish we had brought the older, beefier, more seasoned optioned on the table.
I mean christ does anyone actually think Jesus is the man to break down the doors of Iran?

Ferreira is the least internationally experienced, least intimidating, and least physically opposing of the group. Iran would thank us for playing him.

I’ve come to this conclusion: 4-4-2
Turner
Dest/Ream/Zimm/Jedi
Gio/McKennie/Adams/Musah
Weah/Pulisic
Gets our best guys on the pitch minus Aaronson. Can bring on Aaronson for McKennie or Gio as a super sub. I think the 4-4-2 allows us to be more precise and not open us up as much to a counter.
But I also like this hyper aggressive 4-3-3
Turner
Dest/Ream/Zimm/Jedi
McKennie/Adams/Musah
Weah/Aaronson/Pulisic
I don’t know if I don’t prefer this tbh if we’re just all in on trying to get the early goal. Plus, I don’t know if Aaronson isn’t better than Reyna right now. Reyna def has more potential and I think he’ll be the first of our young guys to be considered world class but he hasn’t been healthy and has to stay that way. Aaronson has been a beast

I can definitely live with this given Aaronson has been involved with 6/5 goals/assists for the USMNT over the last 17 months. Compare that to Ferrera’s 7(4 from Grenada)/4 since Feb 2020.
