I got called out in a thread for having not played competitive soccer since Middle School. The poster was right, but not by choice. When we moved back to Louisiana from Texas it wasn't available to me. I was watching Franz Beckenbauer in the Bundesliga in 1978.
That said, I fancy Tottenham Hotspur if I'm going to get back into it. Is there a better reason than a cool-sounding name?

Premier League is by far the easiest to watch in the States outside of MLS.
Some suggestions for picking teams in Euro leagues:
EPL: Everton, Tottenham
Serie A: Roma, Fiorentina (Never Lazio under any circumstance)
Bundesliga: Bayern Leverkusen, Hertha Berlin
La Liga: Barcelona

You dont have to support a team to enjoy watching the games. Just watch, support US players, and enjoy. There is some unwritten rule amongst some american soccer supporters that you have to support one team and its pure bullshite.
I was a Chelsea fan, but I really dont care how they do, never did really just felt that I had to support someone. Just watch as a neutral and you will be a happier fan.
I also have no ties to any team in Europe so I really cant be a fan in the truest sense of the word, I can just enjoy other teams more than others. For example, even I hate Man U.

In all seriousness, I'll tell anyone that's thinking about getting into following ANY of the foreign leagues to just watch before picking a team. It's OK to have a few teams in mind, but I say watch them. Read up on the clubs and their history. Let yourself just naturally start to gravitate towards a club. If it ends up being Man U or Chelsea, then so be it. But give yourself a chance to pick a team based on something more than just name recognition.

Stoke City seems to have a thing for American players, but they are about as exciting as wallpaper.
I personally prefer the Bundesliga and Serie A over the EPL, but they're not easy to watch. The soccer is just better IMO.
Can't wait for the Bundesliga to start on Fox.

I would say premier league is easier to watch than the MLS. MLS's TV contract is horrible.

I have found that there is a very large overlap between LSU Basketball fans and Soccer fans...
I wouldn't go for a team that has stars as much as a team that is fun to watch. You will fall in love with some players whether they are top notch or not just based on how they play.
Like I said earlier I follow Aston Villa who has USA's backup goalie Brad Guzan and a few other fun players. They fight hard but often fall short.
Everton is a club that has been very good and consistently brings in USA players. They currently have Tim Howard USA's goalie.
