Their back line is blocking shot after shot. They are lucky it’s not 3-0.

And it’s rightfully 3-0. Well done.

he looked really sharp, IMO...

so, is it all but certain that Firmino is not one of our starters anymore, going forward? I mean I get that Jota is good, especially in the center, but Bobby is so good at distributing, I'd love to see him just drift back to a CM role

SiriusXM radio guys said we won playing with 10 men because Tsimikas was non existent and the team had to bail him out time after time

I'm not sure, with the exception of Alisson... none of the guys that game back late, due to int'l duty over the summer, started..

Pretty happy overall with the performance.

Mo's touch seemed off for the most part, but a bad touch directly lead to our first goal so I'm ok with that. He did have a fantastic touch to set up his goal.

I thought Keita was largely absent in terms of creativity and influence.

Virg looked comfortable and confident, which is what I was hoping to see.

Tsimikas looked pretty good at times, especially going forward. He definitely tired, made the one bad give away, and also looked a little hesitant in possession in our defensive third a few times. I think my biggest issue with his play was he didn't close down the guy with the ball a few times well enough, and there seemed to be less understanding with the midfield on whos responsibility certain things were. All things that come with game-time (or should come). Certainly a good debut for a player expected to be a backup.

Overall, the attackers did what they did best, and we didn't give up too many good opportunities on defense. I'll take it. Up the reds.

Yeah, I think he was trying to pull something that didnt come off... more so than just settle the ball.. I could be wrong though...

Keita wasn't very creative, but man he is so good at closing down and pressuring the opposition... especially when the GK is trying to play our from the back... It's amazing that he's been here for a few years already and has never had a solid run in the first 11... Stay healthy please!

To your point, I think Tsimikas just needs game time...his distribution was so good in preseason... he just needs to stay focused 100% of the time...

And I cant say enough about Alisson... I still think he's the GK with the best combination of shot stopping/distribution... wouldn't trade him for anyone...

Am I the only one who wouldn't mind Jarrod Bowen for depth on the LW? I know we were linked a couple of weeks back... I'm guessing the cost would be prohibitive for a back up, especially with the "English tax"

I thought that may have been partly because he was playing more of a Gini role in midfield being a little deeper wile Ox played further forward. I thought Keita played plenty well enough

Ox didn’t have the best game. Milner didn’t either honestly, but he still managed to do his job and think we needed his leadership out there. He and VVD were getting after Tsimikas

Based on this comment alone, I would probably stop listening to SiriusXM. He was absolutely incredible in the first half, and had a pretty good second half. He had one really bad give away at the edge of our box late in the game when he wasn’t paying attention to his blind side, but other than that he was close to perfect.

I got the impression this was the case as well. He looked to be playing the Gini role most of the game. Ox was probably supposed to be the more creative midfielder in this lineup but he was invisible for the majority of the game.

Who were the pundits? He had one lapse of concentration. Besides that, it was a 7/10 performance from me.

I would say he had a few other moments that he was slow to read the game defensively, but all things considered he was plenty good enough. Looked great going forward though

I don't expect a back-up LB not expected to play more than 5-10 matches a year to be world class. He has plenty to build upon.

Kaide Gordan apparently did pretty well in a closed door friendly against Villa. If we have any injuries this year, he may have to play.

Glad Hendo contract is getting sorted.
