Team really missed Zimmerman, who has assumed the brooks role.
Really wished we had good brooks back, could have used his leadership back there against Canada.

What's funny in Gregg's case is that he can't even use the "CONCACAF is hard to qualify in" line that has been repeated ad nauseum (including me) over the last 5 years or that it takes time to build up a program and have them play a particular way. Canada is proving both of those narratives wrong.
I think we always just tried to tell ourselves that to offset the mediocre product we were seeing time and time again. This is by far one of the easiest confederations to qualify from as only about 5 teams each cycle have a realistic chance of making the WC. There are many instances across the world every window of more talented teams going to a small country, playing on a shite pitch, and still coming away with the W.
Throw all the monies at John Herdman next cycle

I am now on board with this. This team wins in spite of GGG, not because of him.

If we lose Wednesday he should be fired on the field.

Excellent summary of our offensive woes:

That is not happening for the US right now. Time after time after time, the US won the ball in good spots to transition forward. Time after time after time, instead of doing that they played backwards, seemingly more focused on getting into their attacking shape than actually exploiting space. It’s almost like the system has become an end unto itself, rather than a means to create the types of chances that win games like this one.

Great article, and I’m glad someone posted it. The positional rigidity is holding us back, it seems.

Wow Matt has gone from an apologist to an antagonist.

To be fair, he never had the plot

That snippet is spot on. Our “attack” is too conservative. The default mindset of our players sometimes seems to be to play the ball backward for a safe pass, and that very little to no risk should be taken in playing the ball forward. It’s frustrating to see players up the field in good positions to make something happen, and the ball played back to a fullback.

Few of us been saying for a while
Don’t have the squad to try and be like Barca which he tries to make us do at times
Good international managers adjust their tactics and play style based on their player pool
Not the other way around forcing a style on players no suited for it

I think he got locked into an overly optimistic style of making us this flashy, attacking, possession oriented, modern team. Jürgen failed to do it, and while we may have the players to start to implement this type of style, I agree with Homie above that we should probably do a better job of tailoring our tactics to our player pool. All of that said, goddamn do we need a number nine that is reliable.

Or start the one we do have. We know what we’re going to get from Gyasi. Who knows where Pepi’s ceiling is!

I predict a four-goal outburst Wednesday and everyone will think everything is fine. Then a loss at Azteca and a draw with Panama and we’ll have to go to Costa Rica still needing points. We just don’t learn.
Posted on 2/1/22 at 12:25 pm to RockChalkTiger
That sounds accurate. It will most likely come down to a road game at Costa Rica.
Posted on 2/1/22 at 12:35 pm to Akit1
If that's the case, we're fricked. We've never won in Costa Rica and have lost all of them from at least mid 90's on. Costa Rica is poor at the moment but......

I just hope Canada doesn’t qualify officially before the final matchday. We really need them at 100% against Panama.

The problem is Greg sees himself as a Pep Guardiola when in reality he’s a poor man’s Neil Warnock
