Gregg did try to evolve the style of play though.

Absolutely. I’m saying maybe he was trying that before he had the players.

That doesn't mean he took the team and talent as far as they could go.

It's one thing to say this and a whole other thing to say that Jurgen would've done a better job with this group.

Hudson acknowledged he's still in regular contact with Berhalter, who promoted him in 2021 from a head coaching job with the U.S. Under-20 team to an assistant role. "I'm close with Gregg," Hudson said. "There's no coaching course or anything, really, to guide you in moments like this. ... This is a really different situation, and I just fall back on being honest. I have a lot of respect for Gregg, and he gave me this opportunity, so I don't know why my relationship would change. He's still a good man."

I do enjoy people accusing you of wanting Greggggg when you're literally the author of this thread

It's been a mindfrick for a lot of people for sure.

As I've always said, I never wanted Gregg the first time, didn't want Gregg the second time, and both of his hires were handled in amazingly poor fashion by the USSF. But while I recognize a lot of his flaws, I'm not blinded in hatred enough to not also recognize that he has been a net-positive for the program.

Still wish we went for a bigger fish, but whatever.

Going back in this thread, I do find it hilarious that Pulisic, based on what Crocker said at the press conference today about bringing Gregg back because the players wanted him, may be the biggest reason for the rehire.

4 years ago... this happened.

Yeah. I remember when he lost Pulisic back in 2019. And then McKennie. And all the euros who don’t respect him. Except psych it turns out they fricking love the man.

If Gregg wears a polo I’ll believe he has made changes

This thread is amazing. And I have no regrets over this post.

Amazingly this whole episode has actually made more sympathetic Klingsman’s messaging, and I imagine a lot of his frustrations. No kidding he wanted players abroad and playing out of their comfort zones. He walked into a far too cozy and amateurish organization.

Gregggg is not the only problem. Crocker made the hire and he was hired by the USSF board.

I’ve probably already said it in this thread or another, but I will say it again.

Who
Gives
A
shite!?

Les Miles was beloved by his players til the bitter end. It doesn’t mean he’s the right coach. I’m not sure that is what you are implying but I know others think that the players supporting Gregg means they made the right decision to retain him.

This ultimately comes down to what are the other options?

Like I think we have to be honest with ourselves and accept that no established coach worth a shite wants to coach the USMNT.

USSF... "Hey Betty Crocker we like you for the job and you know we have this really great guy that we like as coach do you want to be his boss?"

No one important, just the guys who will play for him through two cycles

Why would this not matter? There is a massive difference between a coach with a supportive locker room and one that’s been lost.

And to echo Broski, who wants this job who all things considered will be a better replacement and who will accept the pay? People aren’t knocking down USSF’s door for this job.

FWIW, Wilfried Nancy would be my realistic choice

Is the general feeling that Gregg is the coach through 2026 no matter what?

I saw Herc was talking about how he’s not the guy for this team at this level, but that’s nothing new.

Would it have made much to lose to Jamaica? My assumption is no, but I don’t follow the situation.
