Aboue.. lol. And to those who think Ozil didn't play well today, get some fricking glasses. He was the best player by far. Worst result for either side would have been a draw. Pool can concentrate on a top 3 or 4 finish and Arsenal has a trophy hunt.

Look at the angle from behind webb and you'll see that from that viewpoint and with Suarez doing his best magikarp imitation I can very easily see why Webb thought it wasn't a pk.

So in other words reputation very much does play into it. Also he probably assumed Suarez hadn't legitimately been fouled in the box twice in 5 minutes again because of the unnecessary embellishment and reputation.

They were both penalties but they were also both accompanied by Suarez embellishing which looks bad. If he would just fall down like a normal human being they likely both get called.

Eta: Cazorla got kicked hard in pools box which could've easily been called a penalty and Gerrard should've been given 3 yellow cards. Lets not play the ref card.

I have no issue with embellishment. The ironic thing is that these situations are why its necessary. Until referees start calling what would 100% be a foul outside the box, the same in the box, I tell my player to go down at any contact. Otherwise CB's can gang rape attackers (looking at you Martin Skrtel) and get away with it every time.

Who said I was playing the ref card? I was saying the no call wasn't based on reputation because it was an obvious penalty. I agree that Gerrard and Sterling both should have seen red. Webb was equally atrocious to both sides.

What do you mean it wasn't based on reputation? Just bc the whistle isn't blown doesn't mean a decision wasn't made. Webb decided it was not a pk. And Suarez's reputation as an embellisher probably played some factor in that decision

I mean if a penalty is blatantly obvious to 100% of the people watching reputation (SHOULD) not come into play. It should be an objective decision to give the call there. If it was debatable, then I completely understand why, given the 50/50 nature of the foul, a ref siding with reputation.

In my opinion that wasn't the case here. I think Webb wasn't looking, day dreaming, whatever. But reputation should not prevent a referee from making a stone cold penalty decision.

The way I saw it, the first penalty y'all got was probably the weakest sort of pen you'll see called in the prem. Maybe Howard was trying to make up for it.

I would have understood more if that was the one not called, though it was a penalty IMO...

It's just ridiculous he didn't call the second one and inexcusable...

That said, we had some good chances today and didn't take advantage, you guys did... We may he better off in the long run anyway not playing the extra games...

Yeah, it was incredibly weak. Maybe so. Just strange to see a makeup call on such an obvious foul. Regardless, it is what it is. I'm not saying it would have made a difference, because if the ref calls a good game I think we're likely two men down. Just making a point that I don't think referees should take reputation into calls that are blatant.

That's it for sure. We didn't take our chances and Arsenal did. We've made a living on being ruthlessly efficient in front of goal, and when you live by the sword you die by the sword. Can't convert, can't win.

webb was bad all around

Gerro and Sterling should have both been sent off. He is looking for a new highest bidder since SAF is no longer around.

yes and no... could he have sent them off, yes... but those are a lot more in the gray area (obviously, since he didnt) and happen all the time...

It's inexcusable not to call that penalty, there was no judgement in it...

That said, I'm done with this match and will focus on the league matches coming up..

I'm a gooner, watched the game, and have no idea what you're talking about. What happened with Gerrard and Sterling that would merit a sendoff?

Gerrard got a yellow, committed a few fouls, and then committed the definition of a tactical foul on the Ox, not to mention it was pretty reckless in and of itself. It was just as much a second yellow as either of the two fouls on Suarez were penalties.

Idk what happened with Sterling

Sterling touched Webb when he was arguing with him... There was no force (push) in it at all.. that said Webb gave him a "tread carefully look"

yeah. he did the poke in the chest move to further show displeasure while also yelling move.

would have been a weak send off, though within his rights i suppose. i was pretty shocked sterling didn't get even a yellow there.

I thought it was a straight red, no question. You don't ever, under any circumstances, touch a referee. For any reason. And I also agree Gerrard deserved about 4 yellow cards. Couldn't believe he stayed on the pitch. Both of those situations were as obvious as the penalty that wasn't awarded, for me.

well, i suppose you mean in anger, because guys touch referees in every game trying to talk their way into a call

i know it should have been a red. it still would have been weak. it can be both

Yeah if that's the case then Toure would have been suspended for multiple games after he damn near Terry Tate tackled that ref in the Fulham match

Gerrard should have had at least one more yellow after he got one

Sterling basically got physical with webb
