The Art of the tucked in jersey

The USMNT jersey thread got me thinking. For your older soccer fans or ones who have followed the game for a while. What ever happened to everyone jersey being tucked in. Also do they still make kids in youth soccer do this? Back in the 90's when I played youth and travel soccer everyone's had to be tucked in all game. We didn't get away with the untucked look until HS.
See lots of people bitch about the collar but almost all kits back in the day were tucked in and had huge fricking collars on them. Maybe its the newbs with no knowledge of our trow back game.

Jerseys are more form fitting now so tucking in isn't as necessary. We used to have to start the game tucked in but we'd just untuck immediately after

Tucking in was seen as the class thing to do back in the day. Teams whose players all tucked were viewed as "organized" and all on the same page. That perception seems to have left for whatever reason. I think I remember a time in US youth soccer where a ref could give a yellow for an untucked jersey.

Plenty of times we had the ref stop the game b/c some ones jersey was untucked. He would tell the player to tuck it in before a goal kick or throw in.

They'd want you to keep your shirt tucked in to make it harder for defenders to grab your jersey. If it's stuck to your skin, it doesn't really matter

All the cool kids would try to see how long they could get away with having the shirt untucked. Maybe do a half-tuck when they came on the field

i like to rock the lee cattermole tucked in style. probably mostly because a lot of times our high school jerseys were sized based on the number. and for whatever reason number 3 was like XXXXXXXL. And i had to tuck that bitch in or wear a dress.

High school coach was very strict about keeping it tucked in. I still do it in competitive games.

Tucked in always and with the collar popped. I actually got a yellow card during my collegiate stint for telling the ref no i wasnt going to tuck my jersey in on a corner kick. Then my coaches and teammates fricked with me for the rest of the season bc i got a yellow for an untucked shirt....Weak!

I guess I haven't realized that people rarely tuck anymore. I still tuck mine in and it is a good way to show someone is pulling your shirt.

Most are form fitting, and the ´tug´ gets noticed, whether or not the shirt was tucked in. Some schools-clubs may have some backwards shite, and it´s evident, when the shirt is not tucked in. I remember the old days, when Steve McManaman played for Real Madrid. He was so damned skinny, the shirt looked like a blouse, when he tucked it in (which he always did). Loved that guy, however.
