In conjunction with how flopping is handled, this mob the ref crap is out of control. The head ref for Colombia/England did not have control due to his own fault, but it shouldn't even get to that point where he's running from them.

If he didn't suck at reffing there probably would have been a lot less complaining.

I really wish there was a rule in place to kick players out of a match via substitution. Multiple players should have been kicked off today, but reducing a team down to 10 or 9 men radically changes the shape of the game. The ref obviously didn't want to influence the game in that way, but in doing so created a lot of backlash toward himself.

VAR can’t be used to review flopping and issue a yellow, correct? If not, it should. If no contact is made and it is a clear flop, the cards need to start flying. VAR can help put an end to it, just like it is doing with fouls in the box.

I'm thinking about becoming a soccer ref solely because, if that jackass can get to the World Cup, I sure as hell can.

Some leagues allow retroactive punishment for diving. The question becomes, however, was there contact and then a shite-ton of embellishment or was it just a dive? They aren't going to retroactively punish someone for the former because 'it may have hurt that much'.

Just because he's not a threatened girl throwing cards left and right for dissent doesn't mean he's a bad ref. If you watched ET he got them in line. Good ref, shite commentary.

I agree. It’s tough to police that, but no contact and clear dive should be punished every time.

He gave a number of incorrect corners and fouls, he failed to send at least two players off, the players basically policed themselves for the second half of extra time, and he fricked up part of the shootout.

He was shite.

If he sent those two guys off, then the same people would be bitching because he ruined the game by sending players off and not letting the players decide the game. It's a no-win situation.

I still don’t get how players get to surround the ref and just go off on them. Any other sport the player is getting tossed or penalized.

This isn’t a criticism just interesting.

The guy did all he could do. The lady commentator said he lost control of the game, meanwhile he’s throwing yellow cards left and right. What more can he do?

He could’ve shown red at least twice in the first half but didn’t bc it would’ve been game over.

if people really want to get this fixed, then they have to be ok with games ending with less than 22 players on the field. Outside of just expecting the players to act like adults, sending them off will be the only way.

Morocco also complained about the 43-year-old's performance after the match, which was his first on-field assignment at the event, and midfielder Amrabat raised the prospect of bias by Geiger in an interview with Dutch broadcaster NOS.

Colombia striker Radamel Falcao accused American referee Mark Geiger of bias in the South Americans' World Cup round-of-16 loss on Tuesday, telling reporters after the match "he always made calls to favour England."

"The referee disturbed us a lot, in the 50-50 plays, he always made the calls in favor of England," Falcao said. "This situation was undermining us. He didn't act with the same criteria for both teams.

Tuesday's match was not the first time Geiger has been accused of improper behaviour at this summer's World Cup.

FIFA and sources close to the referee last month denied accusations from Morocco's Nordin Amrabat that Geiger asked for a Portugal player's shirt during the North African country's 1-0 loss to the Portuguese.

Friendly reminder that;

The penalty for Kane was actually his fault.

England is an Orwellian police state

England is home to massive pedophile rings.

I didn't think he was horrible. He missed a couple of calls but blaming the ref for the way the two teams acted is placing blame on the wrong person imo.

That game was destined to get out of hand regardless of the referee.

And I completely agree about the whole surrounding the referee ridiculousness.

In my opinion, if a player commits a straight red offense, the player should be blamed for 'ruining the game'. Now, if it was a foul that should have just been a yellow, fine.

But Geiger literally called the other team for one of the fouls committed on them.

He was shite.

boo fricking hoo. I didn't see bias in favor of either team. Don't be the thug POS team and you won't have to worry about not getting calls your way. Colombia were lucky that Geiger didn't reduce them to 10 in the first half.
