Our guys were definitely gassed out there in the 2nd half and the usual cramps that no one has really been immune to.

The euro based guys you can tell are not fully acclimated and neither really are the MLS guys b/c the season just started and summer had not really picked up.

It's also possible that klinsmann overworked them in the buildup

nah

He preaches fitness and works them hard all the time. He had too esp the MLS guys b/c their season just started.

Which means he could have overworked them in the buildup.

He has kept and maintained a standard since he's been the coach.

Exactly, we didn't have a problem with cramps. We had muscle strains and pulls, which tends to be more a product of being overworked than out of shape. Call it Arsenal syndrome

I never said they were out of shape but the MLS guys were behind the Euro based guys. But training camp wasn't anything out of the usual and the player know what to expect. Im saying all this talk about the climate helping really isn't. They were not over worked. The Jozy thing was more a fluke.

Umm ok...

Have you ever trained for a few weeks leading up to a tournament? There's getting match fit and there's overworking your body. With the muscle strains/pulls either the guys didn't properly warm up, which I doubt, or their bodies are worn down from working so hard in the buildup.

Could be. I'm not saying it's 100% the reason but didn't some of the anonymous sources in that 2013 article that bashed Klinsmann and the state of the team talk about that?

Overworking the guys?

ETA... I'm finally getting to watch the game, and JJ worked his arse off, but Howard is so damn good.

Well the majority of the team is euro bases and already match fit bc their season just ended.

And the MLS guy should have gone into their season match fit. Also, the euro guys coming off their seasons would be a little more worn down, especially if JK has been working them hard in training.

we had 3 people we know pick up muscle pulls

Bedoya
Besler
Jozy

you don't pull your muscle due to heat. You are actually less likely to pull your muscle in the heat than in the cold.

Who really knows? Silver lining is at least we have the full five days rest before the Portugal game instead of the three day break between games 2-3

Did I blame any of that on the heat?

No

around 65-70mins the team looked gassed like the climate had worn them down.

MLS guys were caught up to speed, Euro guys had to maintain. Watch the Inside US Soccer. These guys knew what to expect and has been a standard since Klins took over. He didn't run a bunch of dudes into the ground who were not ready for it.

This. The Jozy/Besler/Bedoya injuries had nothing to do with fitness.

Chasing the ball vs an athletic team will gas you.

We need to keep possession more to keep energy use down.
