''We didn't do a political debriefing, but we did emphasize the fact of this social unrest being there for the entire duration of the Confederations Cup,'' he said. ''The government is now aware that next year the World Cup shouldn't be disturbed.
''To me, these protests were like alarm bells for the government, the senate, the parliament. They should work on it so that this is not going to happen again. Though protests, if peaceful, are part of democracy and therefore have to be accepted ... we are convinced the government, and especially the president, will find the words and the actions to prevent a repeat. They have a year to do so.''

so because Brazil's people are fricking pissed at the cost they're incurring to build the infrastructure for this tournament so that FIFA can make billions, they were a mistake. makes sense.

IMO a World Cup shouldn't go to a country that doesn't already have the quality of stadiums that are needed. That would've knocked out Brazil and would've knocked out South Africa.

Hmmmm, perhaps the WC after Qatar can be held in Egypt, Israel, North Korea, or the congo? Places in extreme sociopolitical turmoil are ideal for hosting the world largest sporting event.

To be fair only a couple countries could hold it if that were the case... Even England or Spain would need to expand some of their stadiums for a WC. France is renovating or building plenty of new stadiums for Euro 2016.
England's 2018 WC bid had plans to expand most of the stadiums they would use: LINK

That's understandable but that's a little different than having to build new stadiums from the ground up or doing near the ground up renovations to a current stadium.

That's why the WC and Olympics should just rotate between continents. USA, Russia, Germany, China, Australia. Africa, South America and the Middle East can be added once they get a country with its shite together

Blatter might be running again for president in 2015... depending on how the Brazil tournament goes. Let's hope it goes really, really shitty.
