What a game plan, executed perfectly by his players. Crowd the middle and force Brazil to cross to a packed box full of tall players. The front three was just incredible. Meunier, Lukaku, Hazard, Fellaini worked their asses off. What a great game

I was secretly hoping Japan would take them out earlier so that we can give Roberto an interview.

I still don’t agree with Nainggolan decision but it is what it is. I mean props to him he made some great coaching moves at Wigan and Everton. He’s definitely had some work against him too, but he knows his shite

I've got a soft spot for Bobby. He's really easy to root for. It's a shame things ended so poorly at Everton for him.

He’s the type of manager that will get like second in this tournament, win the euros, and then totally fizzle out of the next WC qualifiers

Just seems like his typical coaching trajectory

Disagree. I think he was awful after his initial lineup selection.

I'd have to disagree. I don't think he wanted Nainggolan running his mouth or being a turd in the dressing room. It was obvious they weren't buddies and probably felt the need to lay the hammer down. It seems to have worked as the younger guys have obviously bought in.

I think his subbing was late and questionable but he got the lineup right and the team put up two early goals on Brazil. They beat Brazil and are in the semifinals. That speaks for itself.

I mean I know I don’t know the whole situation so I’ll typically give the benefit of the doubt to the manager so it is what it is

He made a good choice initially but it wasn't necessarily ground breaking and then Brazil took control of the game, he waited another almost 40 minutes to do anything about it. If not for Courteois being special and some serious luck, they lose by 3 goals.

And yeah they're in the semifinals but so is Deschamps who I also think is terrible. That'll be a fun semifinal

He's a decent enough manager but there was a lot of luck invovled today. How many goalmouth chances did Brazil miss while under no pressure? Belgium basically went through on an own goal. Japan had the far better gameplan against Belgium, but a crazy header and Fellaini changed the game. I'm not convinced he's some super manager, as I've watched too many of his matches where he was entirely pedestrian.

Both teams have gone further than they have in several recent tournaments, especially Belgium. The coaches have managed to put together a winning game plan. Got to give them a little bit of credit.

With the talent on his team, the semifinals was kind of the expectation I think. I think he's decent but I'm not impressed by anything he does. Like crazy pointed out, they were outplayed by Japan for a very long period of time and they had a horse shoe up their arse in this one. Credit for making it to the last 4 but I think most warm bodies could have them here.

The choice to put Lukaku on the right and bring Afroman into the center can't be underrated, but this Belgium team is super talented, so a QF or a SF were to be expected. But in the actual pattern of the game Belgium have been Jekyll and Hyde in the knockouts. Japan put on a tactical masterclass against them but Belgium got lucky with the looped header and then Fellaini helped impose a physicality that Japan couldn't match. Then Brazil created goalmouth chance after goalmouth chance and only the profligacy of the Brazilians kept the game in hand. On top of that they went through on an own goal.

None of this screams tactical master to me. He came out in a back five that Japan overloaded and pressed with remarkable ease. He waited 30 minutes too long to make a change this game. He's a decent enough coach but Belgium have been super fortunate this tournament.

Yes, but taking Lukaku off when you're trying to eat the clock was an incredibly dumb move. Bringing on Vermaelen was questionable.
