I’m was not too surprised he was left off the roster, nor was I too gutted. The kid is young in age, and “young” in football acumen (but has massive potential). Having experience oversees, developing outside of comfort zones, the feeling of being “left out”, will help shed the naïveté and brandish his character towards #9 edginess.

As far as our strikers go, I think he has the most upside over the next 4 years. I saw flashes of potential over the last year or so, but know he needs time and growth. The talent is there and has the physique. Would like to see him fill out more physically, and have that expressed killer instinct around the box.

My question is, I have a lot of hope for this guy, and wondered what everyone’s thoughts were regarding his ceiling?

He should have been in Qatar. You don’t need a PhD in football to play the 9. Every World Cup we see young talent take center stage. I think the kid has a lot of potential and should have been called up

I would have liked to have seen him there as well, but I somewhat understand. However, choosing JF over Pepi was stupid since even Pepi was ahead of JF at Dallas. And leaving Pefok behind was straight up asinine.

But that’s another story.

More interested in Pepi’s proposed future.

I saw that, but I assumed he lost a bet after the game and that was his punishment. I could be totally wrong though.

In too early 2026 predictions I think it is him and Dike's job to lose. Both big forwards that can hold up play and let our creative players feed them the ball. Pefok kind of is what he is at this point, and I think they will both pass him by by then.

I think our featured striker for 2026 will be someone that has yet to make a senior cap for the USMNT

Who do you have in mind as potential prospects?

Malick Sanogo, Rodrigo Neri are probably are most talented U-18 guys right now. There's also the Balogun wild card. I think of the 9's that we've already seen, Pepi has the most upside of that bunch. I'm still holding out hope that Hoppe puts it together.

With all that said, it wouldn't be surprising if it's someone none of us know of.

In 2018, we didn't know who Pepi, Pefok, Ferreira and Dike were

And maybe come 2026 one of them will be worthwhile.

Thank you sir. Exciting to see a new crop coming up.

If we could have Hoppe’s fighting attitude with Pepi’s play…

Pepi has the tools, Ferreira isn't a true 9, what Pefok is now is likely what he will always be, Dike needs to stay healthy and learn what a first touch is.

We scored three goals in four matches. We could have used anything, especially Pepi. Hopefully, we get a new manager because Berhalter sucks. Pick a European to coach the team.

I don't think we score more goals with Pepi there.

Paxton Pomykal (midfielder) would have been there had he not had a major injury and long rehab. He was a regular call up before that and was getting some major European interest, especially from the Premier League.

Now, he’s just getting back to full health and if he stays healthy, don’t be surprised to see him make the team if he regains his form: see next paragraph.

Before his injury, he had a high work rate, fast, great touch and passes, strong on the ball, a straight up gadfly when defending, rarely loses 50/50 balls, and has great vision. Also, while rehabbing, he put some muscle on his frame.

Son of former pro player.

Huh?

Pomykal has made one cap for the US, and he came on in the 85th minute.

I didn’t say he’s got a lot of minutes in the games with the USMNT. But, seeing that his time with the team was when he was 19 years old and he’s only 22 now, he’s not one to forget IF he returns to what he was before his injury.
Also, he was on the team for 24 games in that time and played on the US under 20 team and U19 teams in those World Cups, starting most of the time.
