Has this been discussed?

I didn't see anything, and didn't know it was a possibility.

Looks like they took down the link from the MLS website and may have been walked back. Here is the original ESPN Deportes article for reference (in spanish)

So would CONCACAF + CONMEBOL only get one Confederations Cup spot? I didn't see that anywhere in the links.

The report also cited the economics of hosting the tournament in the US as more advantageous than hosting in South America, pointing out that some teams taking part in Copa America 2015 in Chile did not receive their guaranteed money in a timely fashion or did not receive the full amount.

More money, more transparency, more efficiency.

I would miss the Gold Cup but I like the idea of a new Copa America.

So CONMEBOL is going to agree to an something that will have no Copa America games in South America? Id give this more credibilty if the mentioned rotating between South and North America.

I missed that doh..... Disregard my earlier post lol. Although I am still skeptical that the CONMEBOL member (notably Brazil) would go for that.

I can see it ultimately being much for efficient and fiscally advantageous for the national teams, but still seems crazy from a South American fan perspective, I'd think.

Yes, although I am sure the financial considerations are very real, I am still surprised the arrangement would not be a rotational setup between North and South America.

I'd love it and I think it'd be invaluable for our national team. Better quality opponents, something to look forward to between World Cups. I'm all in.

I can see this using the current gold cup format every 2 years with the US hosting every other CA edition and one in South America.

Money talks. Their piece of pie must be increasing even if they don't make the tournament

It's such a meh tournament. A merger would drastically change the landscape of not only our development, but massively grow interest in the sport over here.

If this happens it would be a fap world expo.

Every four years, staggered with the WC, would be a significant improvement.
