Also I wonder if this means they will combine qualification processes in the future. That would be a net negative for the US.
I can't see CONCACAF on board if this were part of the deal. Would be disastrous. Basically, every nation in the region besides the US, Mexico, Costa Rica, and maybe Jamaica would rarely have a realistic shot at qualifying for World Cups. Automatic qualification for us would be a thing of the past. The joint Copa/Gold Cup tournaments would be sick. But if that means having to compete against CONMEBOL for World Cup spots, the negatives outweigh the positives IMO.

I didn't see it as a confederations merger, just a joint tournament every four years. We could conceivably continue the cycle of:
14-World Cup
15-Copa & Gold Cups (for confed cup qualifying)
16-Copa Centenario/joint tournament
17-Confederations Cup
18-World Cup
Repeat

Would we still have to use these corrupt fricking CONCACAF refs?

How many slots would we compete for? 8-8 1/2?
