Remember when we left Brooks for dead in Cyprus?

There were discussions (that I was admittedly apart of) on here where we debated whether Gooch or Brooks deserved to be in the 30-man.
Then it was Brooks v. Goodson for the 23.
The goal was sweet as frick, but he was very solid in defense in what was his first ever World Cup.
Hell of a game.

Brooks was also titty skin in Jacksonville. I was glad he made the 23 even before the miracle goal.

I think it's still a wash between the three. Brooks is on the up, Gooch on the down, and Goodson in the middle (if you take a snapshot of where they are right now).
Keep in mind that Brooks had some touch and go moments on the defensive end before he scored.

I'm with you, although Brooks has done better than I expected.
At the time of the player selection, I would have picked Cameron, Fab, Besler, Beasley, Goodsen, Chandler, Evans, and Omar.
Brooks deserves a spot in the top 8. However, Yedlin continues to make zero sense. I would have preferred Goodsen due to him playing in defense with basically everyone the past four years, especially since we have three guys who can play right back even without Evans and Yedlin.

Yeah, I am fine with Brooks. He was at least parallel with our other options. Yedlin was shocking. We should have taken Evans there or another player completely.

Brooks header was fantastic. . . cool as you like and for a kid in his first WC coming in as unexpected injury sub you can't ask for much more. . .
I look forward to seeing him play more in the future.
For Portugal and Germany, I sure hope Matt Besler is ok.

It took huge balls for JK to bring John Brooks to Brazil and give him his World Cup debut as a 21-year-old center back. Brooks honored that decision by putting in a solid shift and getting the game winner. His celebration was genuine and showed how much the moment meant to him. People can question JK's decisions. I have and am sure I will again in the future. But often fortune favors the bold., and I think JK's bold moves with Brooks paid off despite all the heavy scrutiny. So I feel the need to credit JK for that.

I think JAB was solid with the exception of one failed clearance attempt.

Besler still looked more positionally sound to me tonight, as he has for a while.
However, in fairness to Brooks, that was without Boateng on and really diversified Ghana's attack.

I think if Besler is healthy he'll start again. He's been our most consistent center back for several years now.
