A bunch of people on this board wanted Tata to coach us. My question now is what did you see in him that made y’all want him to coach the USMNT?

Mexico has a whopping 0.98 xG for their two WC games with zero goals scored, against equal competition to who we’ve played imo. They have 1 point but would have zero if Lewandowski hadn’t hit a crappy PK.

Against the US over the past year and a half Tata has three losses and one tie, including losses in two finals.

So… why Tata?

Some of you who watch Atlanta United might correct me, but it seemed like they were simply the most talented team in MLS during his time there so they got great results. He wasn’t necessarily a tactician but a figure head. Think he’s more cut out for club coaching over national team coaching.

Josef Martinez having maybe the greatest season ever by an MLS player certainly helped out a lot

In his three losses and one tie against the US (in competitive matches over the past year and a half), Mexico scored 2 goals and conceded 6. And one of the goals they scored came off a terrible defensive error that had little to do with coaching imo.

I kept seeing a lot of people pumping the Tata sunshine, and how he would get more out of our attack, but I don’t see it.

We should not look south but north for our next coach

Herdman is the actual best coach in concacaf.

But man, all the Tata stans have gone radio silent over the past few months. Still waiting on them to chime in here.

Maybe it would help if you named them.

Not worth my effort to scroll through hundreds of pages of old game threads and the fire Gregg thread to figure that out. There were more than a few if I recall correctly. Were you one of them?

Haha no I wasn’t. I think that was before I rejoined TD.

I'd put him on par with Gregg, maybe a little bit higher but in the same tier.

He got his tactics all wrong today.

Mexican fans are upset with his selections especially not calling in Chicarito and Vega but they are weak on talent especially in the midfield and outside back. We just out class them.

With our young core talent he probably could have played like Atlanta United did

He was caught in spot with Mexico and an established set of players on the back end of their careers with the national team

Where he fricked up was not injecting any of that youth talent into the squad. So by World Cup time he was stuck with the shite we saw. The youngest player in their squad was 24

He had no foresight for the future
