Premier League

Every World Cup I get pumped up watching Soccer and tell myself I'm going to give it more of a change other than just every 4 years for the World Cup. I live in Houston and plan on making a few Dynamo games with a buddy who is a huge soccer fan and has season tickets.
Aside from MLS, was also doing some research online for this up coming EPL season and was wondering if there were any threads on the Soccer Board that had a break down of all of the teams (atleast the popular ones that people like on this board) with their playing styles, histories, whats to like about each club or maybe dislike etc.
My buddy I mentioned earlier has been a big Manchest City fan since we were young and I've watched a bunch of their games with him (as well as played with them in FIFA), so I've begun my reasearch with them but wanted to take a look at all of the teams or at least some of the bigger ones that will be easy to follow here in the states. Anyway thanks for any input or links to threads that may have already discussed this.

everton is a great team to follow if you're just getting into it.

The Premier League was never my thing, but I did like seeing Chelsea do well. After them, I like Liverpool.

The Premier League season is from August to May, so this board is loaded with talk about the BPL (Barclays Premier League) during that time. The BPL is arguably the best league in the world, but I would recommend following it at first over the European leagues for two reasons. One is the language is in English (unless you know Spanish, German, Italian, etc.) and two is the availability of games and information.
Wikipedia will be your friend with learning more about the clubs. If you are looking for one of the better clubs, then limit your search to Manchester City, Manchester (except this year), Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Everton. I guess Everton is a stretch, but Tim Howard plays for them and Roberto Martinez (one of the analysts on ESPN) is their manager and they had a great season. The two most popular clubs on this website are Arsenal and Liverpool. Chelsea probably has the third biggest following while the Manchester clubs and Tottenham have a decent amount fans on TD as well.
Manchester City won the league, but Liverpool finished second in a great season and are the best team to watch IMO (I am not a fan of any BPL team, but I enjoy watching Liverpool and rooted for them to win).
The best thing about following the Premier League is that all of their games are available for you to watch at no extra cost. NBC Live Extra offers streams of all BPL games on their website and app. Also, if you have DirecTV or some of the other lesser providers, then you may have channels that show every BPL game.
Since it is the offseason, I would just recommend watching the World Cup. You will probably learn some of the clubs the international players play for. All of the English national team plays in the BPL as well as a lot of Belgian, French, Spanish, and Brazilian players. Check out this neat article I just found on the subject: LINK

honestly i would just try watching for a few years without a favorite team. I know it goes against conventional wisdom on this type of thing but if you watch for a few years you'll develop likes and dislikes in players/managers/playing styles and clubs. Then it will be a lot easier for you.

I agree with this. Before the season starts, make a list of the Americans playing the Premier League. Watch those games and cheer for the Americans to do well (which probably comes naturally anyway) and you'll find a team that you enjoy watching more than others.
I started watching Fulham with Brian McBride and Carlos Bocanegra, and Brad Friedel and Kasey Keller and Tim Howard at their EPL clubs. That lead me to Chelsea, who had a bunch of outside midfielders (Arjen Robben, Joe Cole, Damien Duff, Shaun Wright Phillips) that were fun to watch, and that was the position I played.

Probably because you were watching college gameday and then college football. I haven't watched Gameday since I started watching the EPL. I watch soccer and then flip to football. Makes for a hell of a day of drinking.
