re: Premier League

I was in your position a couple of summers ago. Looking to get into soccer more, so I wanted to get into the EPL. My reasons are very questionable to as why I chose my team, but that's how it happens a lot of the time for Americans with no regional ties.

I was playing FIFA and wanted to choose a team for my manager mode, but didn't want to choose anyone too good. This excluded Man City, Man U, Chelsea, and Arsenal. I eventually chose Tottenham over Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Liverpool. Through playing FIFA I got to know the players better, as stupid as that may sound.

Then Tottenham signed Deuce (Clint Dempsey), and so I was even more interested in them, though I had already been invested before he came. That following season was my first watching, and it was really easy to root for Tottenham because I liked their players, but mostly Deuce and Gareth Bale. Fast forward two seasons and neither player is still on the team, but I still support Tottenham. I liked their players, manager, classic look, and I thought the plans for their new stadium were really cool. Hopefully that thing is finished before I die.

Reasons for this post are to show 1) how irrelevant or trivial reasons may seem when you write them down about why you began to support a club. Even if they feel like it, if supporting that team feels right then stick with it and 2) While it's good to have favorite players, you must be careful about becoming too invested in a player. There is a lot of player turnover in Soccer, and depending on the manager, no one is safe.
