It's interesting because if I was a man with the accomplishments of Caleb Porter, I wouldn't be nearly as reverential of Guardiola or any other coach in the world besides Sir Alex and maybe Wenger.
I'm damn sure Mourinho even as a Barca assistant wouldn't have been.

He's a second year MLS head coach who led the USMNT U-23 to a Olympic qualifying choke job.

The referees were right where Pep was, perhaps Porter was walking over there and saw Pep and felt the need to try to talk to him?
Pretty bitch move by Pep either way.

He's one of the best college program builders of all time and is a very well-regarded coach in US soccer circles. Probably the second or third biggest name after Kreis and Vermes.
That's not bad at all.
I wouldn't take that kind of shite from cartoon stereotypes of Bayern Munich assistants or even Pep, if I was a promising young coach on the rise. Or hell, even if I was a middling guy with 10 years in MLS.

He won one national title with Akron.

So...a second year guy in the NFL after having a decent record, maybe even a conference championship, in college would not still view say...Peyton Manning (okay, he'd never be this big of a douche, but stay with me) as a hero? You still wouldn't be a little hurt if after a pre-season game, Peyton gave you the middle finger and wouldn't shake your hand because he blamed you for Demaryius Thomas getting hurt?

When you admire someone that much, the last thing you want is for them to think poorly of you. Porter got a dream chance to manage against his idol, beat him, and instead of respect and praise, he got blown off. He just wanted to give Pep a chance to redeem himself since he thinks so highly of him.
If Sunil Gulati isn't a dirty liar, I'm sure Porter is okay with the situation now after getting his handshake. If I'm Porter, I'd ask him what Dillard's he bought his outfit from and tell him to jog on. As sad as it was, I hope Porter forgave him and moved on just to be the better man in all aspects on the day.

Yeah...
about that...

That is actually a great comparison. And yeah, I would be super pissed in that case and make some pointed remarks to the press. Not in the unhinged John Cheney confronting Calipari in a press conference way, but with humor and wit, but it would also be pretty aggressive.
And I would have no problem making a big deal out of it. Once you've accomplished a certain amount, you don't need to bow your head before the best, even if you aren't quite the best yourself.
Not blaming Porter, but I would have reacted very differently.

I think so. Have been lurking since before the cup, found this place through college football, more of a soccer fan though. Anyway, that post is literally one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

I think it's the fact he's putting Arsene Wegner in the same category as Sir Alex and Jose

Interesting.
In that case, his first post was good. Second post was not.

It was almost as bad of Pep last night to try to get his players back to the locker room really quick without shaking hands and talking to the MLS Allstars and fans.

Pep expecting a cakewalk. Pep getting his arse handed to him. Pep reacting like a child. Pep losing the respect of a large American audience.

This...liked Pep well enough before...see him as a bitch now...lets go Dortmund or anyone who may challenge Bayern
