Yes, I'm aware of that. This is not about the pure numbers, it's about overall quality. Go compare the 2010 World Cup groups and average the squad quality to the Euro field. The overall quality of those 16 teams overall is better than the overall quality of the World Cup. Almost every Euro team is capable of having World Cup success, not necessarily winning it, but you can't say that for the World Cup.
That's just silly, unless you have low standards for success.

I'm not saying that there are better teams in the World Cup because you're obviously missing out on some huge sides only including Europe, but the field is much more tough for all sides in the Euros because of the quality of all of the sides.
For some teams, yes. Groups B and C were very strong. Groups A and D weren't strong at all.

And Brazil does not have a Euro to play in either. That is my point on the '3 major tournament thing'. Such an argument effectively makes it an exclusive European argument unless we are pretending anyone cares about Copa America. For Brazl to win 3 'legit' major tourneys in a row would take 3 wc's.
Copa America is a seriously underrated tournament. Argentina and Brazil have as much talent as anyone in Europe, and in certain years other countries can make runs. As far as Confederation tournaments go, it is second behind the Euros in my opinion. There is no good reason to discount it.

I trust this has all been dealt with? I was away for a bit.

that the Euros let in more overall quality teams?
13 European teams qualify for the world cup. 16 are in the Euro. Are we arguing teams 14-16 add superior quality to the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay (historically) and so on?
South Africa was the first world cup where a European squad won with it being held outside Europe.

Last Copa America was the single most boring football tournament I've think I've ever watched.
Not trying to discount the quality of the teams playing in it, but it doesn't even touch the Euros.

Certainly not.

Unless you're not a Spain or Germany type team who expects to make it out of group stages, anything into the knock out rounds is success. Outside of Ireland and maybe one or two other teams, if in the World Cup, I think more of the Euro field has the talent and skill to make it out. It's just my opinion, and obviously maybe it's not a good one, but I put more weight into Spain winning the Euro than I do the World Cup in terms of difficulty.

yup....much tougher at times ...it is arguable depending on brackets....still have to give Spain credit though...very impressive to win two straight euros and a world cup in between.

Outside of the 'Guays, Argentina, and Brazil, the Euros let in much better teams than the Koreas, Australia, Japan, Ghana, and even the US can be included in that.
I disagree. Japan, Ghana, South Korea and the U.S. (and Australia on their day) are as good as Sweden and Denmark, who consistently make the Euro's. I think you guys really overrating how good the Euro field really is.

While I do think the European Championship has a slightly higher talent level overall, I don't think the WC is necessarily easier to win. I would go so far as to say it's easier to make it out of the groups at the WC than the Euros, but anything past that seems to have relatively the same talent level.

They why has a European team never been able to win across the pond? Ever. More diverging styles, an injection of more skilled teams... much more difficult accomplishment.
Greece won a Euro.... you think they will ever win a World Cup?
Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love EURO, but it is much much more difficult to win the wc.

Paraguay playing negative football played a big part in that.

I think nothing compares to the prestige and joy of winning the World Cup, but I just feel like every team in the Knockout Stage of the Euro can beat any other. For example, an English team who was absolutely obliterated as being poor, took the runners up to penalty kicks. I'm obviously in the minority, but while I love the pageantry and fun of the World Cup, the constant source of the sport, and the chance to see the US play in it, the Euros always just seem to be filled with more overall quality in play.
That said, I am seeing the light, and honestly, I appreciate the opinions. I do tend to overrate European football. I suppose it's because I don't watch much of the South American play. I can agree that I've gone too far on the difficulty. I still think the quality of the field is higher in the Euros.

No it isn't. If it is tougher to win (and it could be), it is only marginal.
