One ever world cup appearance out of CONCACAF and already eliminated from 2014 contention, what a juggernaut.

In 06 Italy gave up 0 normal goals the entire tournament; only goals they gave up were the own goal against USA and a penalty off a bad call from France. And it was a longer tournament too

So they gave up 2 goals?

I'd argue that Spain is the best team ever in the modern era. What the modern era means is up to you. I usually use 1992 as an arbitrary marker because that is when the EPL formed as well as the new Champions League, which signaled an unprecedented era of wealth and media coverage. I don't mean to discount the teams that came before this period, though, but we've clearly entered a new era where everything about the game is different, from fan interaction to tactics to the coverage.

That said, the Brazil team of the mid 90's to 2002 was pretty successful, appearing in three straight WC finals and winning two of them.

And Brazil does not have a Euro to play in either. That is my point on the '3 major tournament thing'. Such an argument effectively makes it an exclusive European argument unless we are pretending anyone cares about Copa America. For Brazl to win 3 'legit' major tourneys in a row would take 3 wc's.

Further Brazilians are notoriously lazy; they barely sneak into the WC some years... their players are all over God's green earth plying their trade and it takes a while for them to gel into a cohesive unit...

They also won the Copa America twice and the Confederations Cup, once, although those aren't really considered major tournaments.

This. The World Cup has to allow a tournament of teams from weaker areas. The Euros drops a FEW International powerhouses but lets in far more.

Spain is rightfully being discussed because few teams have done what they have done in this period of time.

What I mean is they're never considered on par with the World Cup or the Euros.

Okay, the wording was bad, but do you guys not agree that the Euros let in more overall quality teams? Outside of the 'Guays, Argentina, and Brazil, the Euros let in much better teams than the Koreas, Australia, Japan, Ghana, and even the US can be included in that.

No. You realize the European Championship only has 16 teams, right?

I agree the bottom of the World Cup is weaker, but that's not really the same thing.

Players like Shaka Hislop, Dwight Yorke, and Russell Latapy were terrible

Yes, I'm aware of that. This is not about the pure numbers, it's about overall quality. Go compare the 2010 World Cup groups and average the squad quality to the Euro field. The overall quality of those 16 teams is better than the overall quality of the World Cup. Almost every Euro team is capable of having World Cup success, not necessarily winning it, but you can't say that for the World Cup.

I'm not saying that there are better teams in the World Cup because you're obviously missing out on some huge sides only including Europe, but the field is much more tough for all sides in the Euros because of the quality of all of the sides.
