Bruce Arena said the same thing in 2002.

Alright well it's done with and he said it so let's move on.

New topic: over/under on Mix volley goals in Brazil? I'll set it at 5 and I think that's pessimistic.

I absolutely love Mix. I'd really like to see him starting.

This tournament could definitely be his chance to get into a better league.

I wonder what we would look like with Mix in the CAM role and Bradley as the CDM. Then again I don't love the diamond anyway.

I don't like this quote, because it's not true:

"For us, we have to play the game of our lives seven times to win the tournament."

That's not true. You theoretically can win one game, lose one game and draw five times and win the tournament. The opponents in the round of 16 and quarters might not be that great, either, depending on the draw. It's not like we're going to be playing the best seven teams in the world and have to beat all of them.

A draw against some countries could still be considered playing the game of their lives.

Yeah, considering we would have to play teams like Argentina and Brazil if we get out of the group.

Noted. But let's say we beat Portugal, tie Ghana and lose to Germany and advance as second in the group. I don't think that's impossible to ask at all. Then Russia is able to sneak by Belgium and win its group. We can win that. All of a sudden you're in the quarters and who knows what you get based on draw/upsets.

Listen, I "know" we're not going to win it. My point is that it doesn't take seven miraculous performances to win this thing. You won't play seven juggernauts and you can even lose a game (technically two, but the chances of getting out of the group with three points have to be less than 10 percent, I'd imagine). Maybe this is just a psychological ploy by Jurgen, I don't know. I just don't like the overall attitude.

I fully expect some of these big team to go full France/Italy 2010 or Holland 2012 Euros so you'll definitely have some surprising teams getting out of their groups. Can't see it being Germany though; possibly Portugal with the Ronaldo injury. Ghana's always a possibility because well Ghana.

LINK
World Cup "This is Sportscenter" commercial with Bradley.

I like the Landon Donovan copier and women's one from 2011 better.

Altidore's, where he exchanges shirts at the end of a meeting, was great.

It'll only be up for the duration of the World Cup. Once it ends we'll lose this on and the bracket thread.

This thread is to prevent a thread for every u.s. topic being started.

Oh and one week till we take on these frickers

Haven't been paying close attention, but did Donovan not make the team simply because of age?
