The twitter account, SportsCenter, tweeted out a photo of Jurgen with quotes saying "We can't win THIS World Cup," via the NYTimes.

That tweet has since been deleted. Weird.

I have him heard say that reaching the semi-finals would be the best possible tournament.

We will not win the World Cup, but I disagree that we cannot. Technically, anything is possible.

I'm just glad y'all aren't letting any opportunity pass to criticize Jurgen.

He should be called out for being too honest and for not being forthright enough.

There's something to be said for consistency.

They don't scream winning a World Cup, either

This isn't a team built on individuals. If you went player by player of who would make the roster of a world cup contender, there is a good chance you wouldn't find one.

The Davis Wondo comment was meant because I thought you were saying there were in Jurgen's plan for future World Cups.

I don't blame Jurgen for not thinking were gonna win; he'd be mad to think otherwise. I just don't get why he felt the need to say it in public. If you wanna say that shite among the coaches that's fine, whatever. Jurgen is not sitting too well with the players after this and the Landon exclusion.

I can't imagine the players are cool with Jurgen right now after saying that shite. Especially with it being on the heels of leaving Landon off but that's more related to the older guys on the team.

All I've ever heard Jurgen say is that it's good to dream big and that it'd take a miracle to win the World Cup. This goes along with what the players themselves have said, which is that getting out of the group would be an excellent World Cup.

No one's trying any less because of it, but everyone knows that we have a very small chance of winning the World Cup. It'd take several lucky bounces to make it through the gauntlet.

This will have no effect on the players with Jurgen. Outside of shock, I think that the players are quite fine with Jurgen at this point. I also think that fans are really just projecting their emotions onto the team or just assuming that players feel the same way. I'm sure they have some of the same emotions to an extent, but they're all clear that they move on from this stuff almost instantly.

I don't know, maybe I'm freaking out. I don't recall any of the players saying we're probably not going to win.

Here's the article. I thought this was something he said recently but it was actually in December so I retract most of my outrage.

Back in college. Yea. The messican in the background got his arse kicked later.

That Times article is awesome. Sure to rustle some Donovan fanboy jimmies, but gives more insight into how Jurgen left him off.

I'm so fricking sick of the Jurgy hating and the Landon shite. Every single thread is being disrupted with this stuff. Can we just create threads about those topics? People are so pissed about the Donovan thing that Jurgen can't even take a shite correctly now. Technically we can win the WC, is it probable? No. Everyone jumps on every little media leak and don't take the time to research when or the context of the quote. I read that within the last couple of days he said "when we make it out of the group, then we can dream", I guess that's wrong as well.

Just start a new one when the World Cup starts

None of this is going away until we have actual soccer to talk about

I think this would qualify as a world cup topic related to soccer. Before the actual story came out, I thought Jurgen had said it recently which I just thought would be pretty messed up to say right before we start playing.

I mentioned Landon but we haven't really brought him back into the conversation for weeks so I'm not too worried about that kind of talk starting to crop up again.
