So friends... Leicester Tuesday. It will be interesting to see our lineup given the short amount of rest time. I have to imagine some players will need a rest.
Predicted/hopeful lineup:
Mignolet
Manquillo-Skrtel-Lovren-Moreno
-Can-
Gerrard-Henderson
Markovic-Borini-Lallana
Depending on our formation, we could see Gerrard sit next to Can with Henderson playing AM down the middle or on the right. I think Kolo and Lambert will need to rest. Lambert would still likely see the field as a sub, and I hope kolo is able to go (we need consistency at the back) but he is 33. Also think this might be a decent chance to let Markovic get a run in the PL, but I could be wrong. Seems to be quiet on that front, have not heard much about his development lately (unless he is injured?)
Thoughts/ Opinions?

I saw a lot of excellent combinations in the second half yesterday. Probably the best half of playing off eachother since Tottenham.
Lambert, Joe Allen, and Hendo each had excellent chances.
I think if we can keep playing like that, more goals will come.
It was very nice to get a clean sheet - and while Stoke had a chance or two, only two made me hold my breath. The question we have to ask is if that was because it was Stoke, or because a tired Stevie wasn't running around back there.
We're only 5 points out of 4th, with a run of games that should provide opportunity for 3 points several times. The trip to OT should be huge and we need at least a tie there.

If he goes that route, at least I'll finally have a team to root for

watch nycfcfcfc pick him up and try to play him and lampard in the same midfield like england tried to do which didn't work so well.

I'm definitely jealous. Will get there one day. Hope it's a big victory!

Good victory yesterday.
Other than his back heel, sterling needs to figure some things out. His dives were embarrassing and he's really struggling and going to that way too often. He did have the perfect opening for a one on one through and lallana didn't see him, but other than that, his lack of idea and creativity were very apparent for 85 minutes. I wish Markovic had adjusted better to give him a break.
Lallana needs to play more. He's generally our most creative guy when he plays. Can Rodgers put both he and coy on at the same time? We will see.
Lambert continues to be what we need right now. A lot of good hold up play and layoffs. Plus putting himself in good positions.
Lucas was serviceable and with gerrard playing in front instead of next to him, it worked pretty well. Lucas was pretty physical at times, but still not explosive enough for long term.
I would like to see sakho and kolo get some games together.
Migs got lucky. That's all I'll say.

I agree with most of what you said
He needs to do better with his decision making of when to take on defenders and not get himself in trouble, but he hasn't got the best help with other players giving him options either as we tend to be too static waiting for good dribbles instead of running to space as much as we did last year.
And I thought Markovic would've fit in well the last few games when teams have come at us more. He still has a lot to do to progress as a player, but that's moments that we should take advantage of putting him in a position he's comfortable with when he can run at people. But Brendan hates using subs all of a sudden.
I can't wait for the Ilori - Sakho era to get here (and hopefully it works)
As for Mignolet, nothing much to say. He at the very least needs competition, but I wouldn't be surprised if he just totally collapsed farther as his confidence was gone if we did. Nonetheless, it needs to be done sooner rather than later.
quote:I think Mason was harsh for the amount of times he didn't give Sterling calls. He does go to ground easy, but he does well to position his body putting defenders in a position to foul.

I think Mason was terrible yesterday and I agree, he was letting Raheem get pushed around.. I even think the Stevie non-call was questionable, but I can see that one being borderline...
Sterling just seems to be pressing a little too much, trying to make things happen on his own... I would have like to see Markovic get a little action yesterday towards the end, but given our recent history, I can understand the decision to go with Lovren..
I'm not sure if all the criticism of Migs is getting to him, but he appears to be getting worse... I can't decide whats needed more in Jan, a DM or someone to come and push him for the top spot (if not be the clear #1)
We've hardly been great or even really good the past two matches, but it's a much needed 6 points... baby steps i guess...

No definitely not great or even that good. But we have grinded out a few victories and that builds confidence and I see it as a necessary part of our turn around. We weren't going to go from inept to explosive except when Sturridge returns.
I think lambert has helped us play a lot better as a team up top. Better combination and hold up play - plus his movement and positioning opening up spaces for others.
We are settling into a different approach. I don't know if it will grind out results against manu or arsenal, but if we can keep picking up 3 points in our other matches and only be 5 or so points out of the top 4 come January and sturridges return, I'll feel pretty good about it.
Rodgers teams have been much better after New Years each year here and so we just need to stay close enough for now.
Eta - and it will be good to have a developed style of play to move to when Sturridge has his next injury and if we have problems playing too aggressively.
