Not really digging the alternates

I have to disagree with you here man, I think they look really sharp... I was pretty stoked to see we were FINALLY wearing them this year.

I plan on buying one before the season is over to go with the Stevie G home kit I bought at Christmas, speaking of: any input on what name? I'm kinda leaning either Coutinho or Hendo.

I dig the gold liverbird with the black background. They have definitely grown on me since as well

Also not sure if anyone has said it but Mignolet was good yesterday. I've been impressed how he has bounced back from a spell in poor form. I still think we need to buy to create that competitiveness but overall he was solid yesterday. So so happy with this win

I like the Liverbird, I just don't dig it in gold with the rest of the trim/design being red. Three color system throws me off. I'd much rather see a red bird. But, to each his own. I don't dislike it, really... Just don't enjoy it like I do the red or yellows.

Of those two, btw, I'd go Coutinho. I love Hendo as Captain, but Coutinho is just a quiet machine. I do agree with an early adoption of Ibe, but my next purchase will be a Balotelli jersey.

Read that our starters average age was 23.4 yesterday - youngest this season for any epl game. That's amazing.

We did not play that well yesterday but we got lucky on some calls. Played hard. I didn't understand the Lovren/can switch. Lovren is an lcb so left side of a three would make sense. And they had some problems early on with pelles hold up play and the space behind the wing backs.

But after we calmed down and for into the game, we really didn't give up many chances yesterday.

Amazing that we have become a clean sheet machine. Some luck involved. And migs has really stepped up.

Need to rest Cou. Need to rest Hendo. But j don't see either guy sitting thursday or Sunday.

Sunday is now huge - can't climb back in and then drop all three points. At least a tie is necessary.

His hold up play, and Clyne was torching Markovic on that flank. There's a reason we settled down. It was called replacing Markovic with someone who wanted to play defense and track back

With Clyne having his way on the side, it caused Coutinho/Lallana to drop which stunted our attack. With Moreno being subbed, that resulted in Pelle and Djuricic to play much more centrally which is a lot more comfortable for the 3 in the back. I'm glad Rodgers had the balls to make the switch cause it def changed the landscape of the second half

I don't think that's fair to markovic. He's been decent (and better than expected) on defense. Effort and desire to track back are not his problems. Defensive ability and his read of the game defensively are. But yesterday was his worst game in awhile and in the new formation.

Carra and Henry, in the post match, were discussing how we basically switched from a back 3 to a back 5 with the introduction of Moreno...this was to nullify their attack on the wings, but we gave up the middle of the pitch with this change... And though they held posession, they didn't have much in the final third... Credit to Rodgers..

Not sure why he started Markovic on the left, unless it was simply to rest Moreno...

I completely agree that it's not fair because he is totally being played out of position, but reality was he was getting run down on his flank so something needed to be done. He's great going forward but he seems to have a hard time balancing his defensive and offensive duties. Rodgers has made it pretty clear that you can't just play one way in his system.

edit: Markovic got stuck with Clyne who is great going forward, while Ibe got Targett who is basically a sub, and Ibe showed he's much better than Targett. Just how it works I guess. Even though Ibe usually plays on the right, it would have been interesting to see him go against Clyne and let Marko battle Targett

Agree with everything. Can looked very uncomfortable on the left starting out.

And it was good to grind out a win like that where we defended well enough and finished some of our chances to get a tough win on the road where we beat a tough team a their own game pretty much.

I have the alternate and I love it. Grabbed the Gerrard on the back because I still didn't have one and its his last year.

What a win. Lucky as hell but no team ever gets top four without a bit of luck (or a lot of luck in United's case). 2 points off of fourth, THREE points off of third. Holy shite what is going on? This has to be one of the greatest turnarounds I've ever seen a team make.

I'm with you the turnaround is insane. Like a lot of posters have said here recently I'm just enjoying the ride.

And we're still in great shape for the FA cup and in Europa, if you had told me this is how the spring would start for us after the train wreck we had then I'd have called you crazy. I was dreading the rest of the season in early December, now I can't wait for each and every game

Any ideas from you guys on how we should set up against man city? Same 3-4-3?

I personally would like to see Kolo come into the back 3, moving can to midfield to help against Yaya Toure

I can't offer a better alternative, but I disagree with anything that takes Can off the back line. He, IMO, is the biggest reason for our 180° in the defensive end. He is a machine.

Aside from that, Kolo is still hurt, isn't he?

As usual I'm with Byrdman, Can is the player that we have been looking for at Anfield for a couple of years. It's no coincidence that Migs got his mojo back when BR took a chance with the back three and the key to that is Can. He is an absolute monster whose future is as bright as anyone's with our club. The problem is that his box to box ability is scary and it makes people want to pull him out but I think we are a year away from officially unleashing him all over the pitch. For now he has been a rock back there and I'm not messing with our back end the way we are playing. It wasn't long ago that we had totally given up on any back end productivity at all.

What if we went:

Sturridge
Coutinho --- Sterling
Moreno---Can---Hendo---Ibe
Sakho--Skrtel---Toure
Migs

I agree, I really like Can at the back, but we are kinda light in the midfield so I wouldn't mind seeing him there.

I wouldn't mind seeing it against a lesser opponent, but against Man City doesn't seem like the time to be screwing with personnel. I'd LOVE seeing that back line as part of a back four, if we could make it work (not been the case).

As far as formation goes, why not run a 3-5-2 with Coutinho as a CAM. Push him up enough to keep the pressure on like normal, but make sure he knows where he is needed a bit farther back. If Studge/Sterling can't create anything, sub Balo in at the half and let Sterling or Coutinho rest a bit. I don't think any striker should get time aside from Studge or Balo, and Sterling if he starts up there.

I understand not tinkering with a good thing, but during this run, Can has been pushed up into midfield while Lovren has come on as a sub... So, it's not like it's the first time they have played this way...
