Glad to get the win... Could only keep one eye on the match, due to work.

I'm glad Balo took the PK, but technically, Hendo is the captain (if he wants to take it)... It looked like he acquiesced at the end and it wasn't a big deal.. JH has definitely been taking more of the free kicks this season, when Stevie is absent and since Balo hasn't been playing..

I'd be curious to know, what is discussed during training...

There is absolutely no way Jordan is or should be the penalty taker. I refuse to believe Rodgers is that stupid.

Agreed.

Seeing rumors that Rogers and the LFC brass are HIGHLY interested in snagging Pjanic from Roma this summer.

Apparently he is the second best midfielder in all of Italy's top flight... $57M pricetag though, because of the 4 years left on his Roma contract.

Would they really spend that kind of money on him? With Can stepping up on the back line, we still need a solid defensive Mid. From what I can tell, this guy plays pretty far up for a midfielder... Unless I read wrong.

Just finished watching. Good win! Ibe is a monster. An absolute monster.

I'm glad Balo took the shot. Even happier he scored.

Ballotelli s the best from that spot in the world. I understand why Stevie takes them but I would not mind if Balotelli always took them. Sturridge is not good from there and if Hendo would have taken it that SOB would have landed in Stanley Park. Remember the biggest PK in the history of the club was taken by Xabi Alonso over Stevie and that turned out just fine.

Yeah I agree. I don't think Sturridge was upset that he didn't take them. I think he was upset that Balo just took the ball from Hendo. And I understand that. You don't undermine the captain. Gerrard even said something to that effect today.

Regardless, it's all being blown out of proportion now. The team will move on. Brendan/Hendo will talk to Balo, probably firmly plant Balo as the official PK taker when Stevie isn't on the pitch, and everything will be fine.

This is a non issue.

I think the only reason Balo wasn't the official PK taker today was because he wasn't the starter.

But it should be understood that there's an overall order. Either Balo hasn't offically become number 2 yet, or he's not been on the pitch enough for them to think of it?

I think you both are correct. I think Henderson's response was very mature, Balo had some thankful things to say about Hendo. Not an issue and future PK's will be fixed.

LOL. No they won't. If Balo is on the pitch he's going to take it. Regardless of pre game planning.

He will not take one over Gerrard.. no way. That is how it should be, too..

Like someone said earlier, since he didn't start, I doubt he was the designated penalty taker..

I agree that this is now blown WAY out of proportion... fair play if Balo had missed, like Mirallas (not to mention Baines is a proven penalty taker)..

One thing is for sure, BR needs to sort it out sans Gerrard, to avoid this type of shite again.. it's overshadowing a) a very good win b) Ibe's great performance c) Mario starting to find his groove in the team

edit: Gerrard probably should not have aired his views to the masses, but what he said had merit and he was probably just caught up in the moment..

I'm sure it's already been addressed in the dressing room. Did you hear BR's post-game comments? He sounded a little pissed to me.

'I'm aware he's a terrific penalty taker,' Gerrard said in August after scoring a penalty for Liverpool in their 3-0 win at Tottenham. 'I'm sure he'll get the chance to take some penalties for the club. The manager's told me if I'm not on the pitch he'll take them.'

I saw BRs quotes from this morning's presser and he said it was Hendo's call, but at the same time said Balo was the nominated penalty taker... yeah, he wasn't happy with how it played out, but it went in, we got the result and thats all that matters!

I agree... ready for the saints!

Yeah. "If Mario is on the field he takes the penalty." "... he's an outstanding penalty taker."

Moving along now. How are we feeling about Soton on Sunday? I'm concerned about Coutinho, and Hendo possibly being fatigued. Neither looked particularly great last night, and they will again be on short rest.

Lovren (gasp) Skrtel Sakho
Ibe (Markovic) Can Allen Moreno
Sterling
Studge Balo

or

Markovic Sterling
Studge

Lovren has certainly improved. I think a break has clearly done him (and his head) some good. And I'm a proponent of almost always playing guys against their former clubs.

Can is another one I'm slightly concerned about fatigue-wise.

yeah, we've played a lot of games and right now, the attack is where we have the most depth to rotate...

Hendo is a machine, so I can see him still holding on to a CM spot... I also thought Allen has done okay the last few matches.. nothing spectacular, but more importantly, nothing bad... Can is prob okay due to not getting a whole lot of time early in the season..

I feel more comfortable with Lovren in a 3 man CB set up, than a 2 CB pairing...

I just want to see Balo and Studge get some meaningful gametime paired up... Balo is finding form in this system and Studge is starting to get his match fitness... This would be a huge 6 point swing with SOTON
