Economy is fricking terrible. Current flooding isn't helping that. The Serbian Dinar is almost impossible to exchange outside of the country itself. Most places will take Euros, but you'll be charged more.

Extremely strange eating schedule. Breakfast, then snack, then lunch from 2-5, then snack, then dinner from 7-9, then snack. Rakia is the drink of choice (plum brandy). Serbian coffee is disappointing (although they should have good, Greek/Turkish-style coffee, most of what they sell is Nescafe).

Most people in the cities can speak English really, really well. Serbian as a language is pretty easy to learn (at least for me). Most writing is in Cyrillic, but not always.

Don't go if you are white but have darker-than-pale skin.

Pretty easy to get around, but don't take a cab. They will gouge you. Bus drivers all drive like maniacs.

Lots and lots of Orthodox churches and monasteries. Many of them are absolutely gorgeous on the inside. If you're out on a Wednesday or Friday, you will be reminded that you should be fasting. Place is also very anti-Muslim (this last time, a bunch of Serbs were angrily chanting the Paschal greeting every time the mosques did their call to prayer).

Serbs love graffiti.

I personally enjoyed it.

FIrst time I can say I'm jealous of you. I really wish I would have made a trip to Europe and went to some of these crazy derbies. The closest I will ever come will be my trip to the Azteca for the next USMNT vs Mexico match.

Twice. The picture situation detailed earlier and another time when one of the big fan-held flags near me caught fire.

Also how'd they feel about an american sitting in the ultras section?

They were happy that a Celtic fan was there. For them, they love PAOK, have a relationship with CSKA Moscow and CSKA Sofia, and like Celtic (they see Celtic as the anti-Protestant club ). Of course, before I told them I was a Celtic fan they thought I was Russian (I apparently speak Serbian with a Russian accent ).

Any hot serbian chicks?

Some. Probably more for other people (I don't like blondes).

Great pics. Looks liike it was a blast!

we have a serbian national on our cross country/ track team. one day we spent one of our longer runs talking about things that happened at soccer matches over there. Its ridiculous. From what Ive heard Belgian matches get crazy as well.

No clue why but every time I think of Red Star, I think of the Red Ribbon Army from Dragon Ball

Awesome pictures by the way, looks like a crazy time!

None. The police make sure things like that don't happen.
