He peaked circa 2010-2011 with Villareal. Back then he was legit.

Now he is a shell of himself. He is a decent goal scorer and that's why he still collects a paycheck. But make no doubt about it, Rossi can't really play anymore.

I havn't seen him play since the Champions League I think 2010, so I will take your word for it. I was just surprised how little he was called up for in the Italian national team after how highly he was regarded early in his career.

I think a lot of people in Italy were confused by his exclusion from the 2010 Italian squad. He was at his peak. Yes he was battling injury, and that is the excuse that Lippi gave for leaving him out.

Bear in mind that Italy was eliminated in the first round in 2010. So Lippi made some bad decisions and was ushered out the door shortly thereafter.

Would he?

I didn't mean to come across as such a dick in my first post, so apologies for that.

In my opinion, yes, he would make this current US squad over Wondolowski. I'll take it a step further and say he probably shouldn't have been left off of Italy's team that just got bounced.

Well that is your opinion, but Rossi hasn't been an effective player on the field for about a year and a half.

so apologies for that.

Thanks, but no need for apologies. Gotta have a thick skin around here.

- Robbie Keane, I was pissed when Liverpool decided to sign him instead of David Villa in 2008.
- Robin van Pussy, because of his bitch arse attitude.
- Wesley Sneijder, good on international level but not anything special with clubs.
- Gareath Bale, because of his outrageous transfer fee when he is not worth that much.
- Andrey Arshavin, had a fantastic World Cup but hasnt lived up to hype with Arsenal.
- Lukas Podolski, was suppposed to be the next great German star but has been passed by Muller and Schweinsteiger.

Rossi was leading Serie A in scoring (14 goals in 18 games) until he injured himself... again..

I think the level he achieved after doing his right ACL twice was impressive. He may not have made the USMNT (hypothetically) this time around because he only started playing again in early May, but IMO, had he not had this recent setback... not only would he make the team, he'd be in the starting 11

I'd say Rooney... specifically in the past couple of years.

I still think he's a good player, but don't think his 300k/wk is justified by his on field play, I'm guessing Man U has other reasons to justify it...

edit: I'd also add that while I think Gareth Bale is a very good player, he is way overrated in terms of what Real Madrid paid for him... relative to on his play on the field.. I realize his value off the field, may close that gap somewhat..

Mindlessly bashing Wayne Rooney has become so popular, that he's become underrated.

Yeah, Rossi would be an obvious starter for us if he was fit.

Rossi would 100% have made this WC team.

Giuseppe Rossi

It's hilarious that people think a double digit goal scorer in Serie A wouldn't make the US team, like we have ever had that. He would be among our best players, injuries and all. Rossi's career has been derailed by injury but he's still an extremely effective player. And Fiorentina is better than nearly any team any of our players play for.
