I don't agree that Busquets isn't a very good player but I do agree that he, especially for a couple of years, was really overrated by many of those saying he was hands down the best DM in the game.
With Xavi's led Tiki Taka style for Barca and Spain he is/was an excellent fit, no question. However, in terms him as DM, I'd take quite a few others if I ran any other system -- maybe even in that system -- over him.

Its Rooney. Rooney is a very good player, and for one season he was almost as good as Messi/Ronaldo. Unfortunately, most seasons he's not that good. There are probably 10 better strikers than Rooney now.
He was a great player when he broke through, forceful, aggressive, creative, he played with flair and passion. Unfortunately Ferguson coached that all out of him. He's definitely better in the box than 10 years ago, but he's nowhere near the creator be was back then. I feel like people imagine that Rooney is still as much the architect with all his Center forward qualities, but he's not. Plus he's got a terrible attitude, when things aren't going his way he sulks. If he were foreign the British press would slaughter him.

I don't disagree but I'm also unsure if many people really rate Rooney that highly?
I think he's very good but I don't think he'd even pop into my mind if I started listing the top 10 attacking players.

I feel like some people still think of him as being ready to challenge Messi, Ronaldo. Personally I don't think he's good enough to build the England team around, which many do.

I think, for this World Cup, he was probably the only player they have that's really creative as well as experienced.
I didn't see the Costa Rica match but in the other two matches, the younger guys like Barkley and Lallana (sp?) and Sterling were dribbling up a storm but ultimately pretty ineffective.
I think that if England had some loosely defined idea to play like Liverpool, Rooney was still the closest thing they had to Suarez's sheer quality that's really the main ingredient.

Rooney is still so damn effective, having scored double digit goals in 11 seasons straight playing a variety of positions. It sucks that Ferguson made him so pedestrian in many ways, as he is such a natural no.10 when he's given the freedom to express himself. Van Gaal might be able to get the best out of he and RvP together, which would be great, since as yet they don't seem to link particularly well together.
I think the epitome of Roooney's performance was that night in Zagreb in 08 or 09 when Walcott scored his hat trick. Rooney absolutely ran the show that night and was utterly fantastic. If only he showed that form every game, or at least more often.
