Touché. Regardless, I'm not going to hate on Pep for this. He's got his reasons, and I think he just had a shite moment. He should have been bigger, but ESPN definitely milked it by showing Porter following him around like a sad little puppy. It fit right into their narrative of the scrappy underdogs and the Eurosnobs. People were saying some stupid shite afterwards.

So wait, should we never watch American football again because of NFL preseason games being a joke or what about the Pro Bowl? This game was a mix of a preseason game and Pro Bowl. What do you expect? The game itself was still very competitive and fun. Your argument is silly.

No, no. This is soccer. Not an American sport. Therefore, it's okay to ignore blatant facts to further the "soccer is bad" circlejerk. Every time they realize their argument is weak, there's a new reason why it'll never catch on here.
The best part is that it seems to be catching on quite well, and I love watching people get so butthurt about it.

This format for this game is kind of dangerous....obviously the MLS guys want to beat the big Euro teams. It's also pretty obvious that putting the Euro team in that position is tough. Although if I'm Pep I'm not sure I risk putting in many of your starters at that point.
It was a damn fun game to watch though.....this format works great for the fans for sure.

Kind of? You have a collection of MLS players, most of whom don't play together and have only trained together twice, in mid-season and highly competitive form playing a club of superstars who not match fit. The manager of the superstars has to play them or people whine and complain which looks bad for his club. The manager of the MLS All-Stars is really not in position to control his players. Porter didn't even have a sub to take off either Alonso or Johnson after their fouls. This game is a recipe for disaster. I'm surprised we haven't had another case of this before.

The closest thing was in 2012 when as substitute Aurelin Collin got injured in the second half and Jay DeMerit had to play the entire game despite having a competitive game in a few days.
Also if we are to believe shirt sponsors.

It really is incredible. I don't think any sports growth has ever been so vehemently hated. Why are you so mad? Worst case scenario, people with expendable cash spend more money and the economy gets a bit of a boost.

It's not going to hurt Bayern here in the long term. It just didn't help them much. At the end of the day, Bayern is incredible to watch play, and people who are interested will naturally be drawn to them. Most of America couldn't even tell you who Pep was before tonight, and I doubt they'll remember this for longer than a few days.
