Manchester City Council voted to approve plans that will allow the 2012 Premier League champions to increase their capacity from the current 47,726 to 62,170 for the start of the 2015-16 season.

Only Manchester United, whose Old Trafford ground can seat 75,811 spectators, can accommodate more fans.

City will add a third tier to both the North and the South Stands, including more than 6,000 extra seats to both, and plan another 2,000 pitchside seats.

Im at a lost for words. This will probably be a disaster.

The only reason I see them maybe doing this is to host a Champions League Final or possibly hosting a World Cup game if England gets it in the near future.

tarps at man city EPL home games, wtf is this the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The place would for sure have WC games and has already had a UEFA Cup final.

Why would you build 15,000 empty seats?

Well, they are averaging over 47k in attendance right now. 62k is a stretch but I can see them pulling in a bit more...maybe 55k.

doubt it

Attendance has been an issue from day one when they moved in there. Lots of empty blue seats even this season during their biggest home games. United,Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

More revenue. Selling the season tickets will mean increased revenue regardless of whether people show up.

And the expansions don't count against FFP. Easy decision for a big club with money.

I think you fail to understand how the English club team system works. Even a clubs like Man United,Chelsea,Arsenal and Liverpool only have 20k to 40k season tickets. Club memberships which give you the right to buy tickets is how they make money. Making the stadium bigger isn't going to help city with that.

Somewhere approaching 6k have joined the waiting list now on top of the ca. 38k ST holders. Stadium expansion will be done for for 2015/16.

I'm assuming these 6k will have to pay in addition.

Yeah, I couldn't find any link to what the guy was saying, but he's generally pretty knowledgeable about City stuff.

Guess if I get a chance to go to England and want to see Arsenal the best chance for that would be to go when they are playing at City.
