I saw one of the wrap up alerts that said, "scoreless," and I initially read it as, "soulless," which would have been about right.

I think it’s clear Kirkez is the best option we have at LB. The Greek Scouser had a pretty rough game.
Jaquet looks really good.
Isak had a couple good chances.
I hear people shitting on Wirtz, but I thought he played good today. He is so talented with the ball at his feet. Would like to see him be more clinical near the goal, but I don’t think he was a problem for us.
This is a team in transition with the highest expectations.

Yesterday should have tempered many people’s expectations. It’s Arsenal’s league for the foreseeable future with only City there to challenge them. Top 5 finish and making some noise in the Domestic Cups is the goal this season. We have a favorable draw in Europe and hopefully that happens again when the knockouts begin.

I’m going to disagree here. We have played 4 weeks. Arsenal and City look good, but this is a long season and there are still twists ahead.
I think Liverpool will still have a say in the title race.

Yeah I would love to be wrong but we aren’t anywhere near title contenders
I’ve thought from the get go that finishing in a champions league spot, a deep cup run, and a decent run in Europe would be a fantastic first season under Iraola

My thoughts: Mac, Koumas, and Mamardashvilli were fantastic (except for the goal he let in). Nyoni and McConnell impressed in midfield. Gakpo played great and even Kerkez had a decent game. Grav, who i love, is not in form right now, and I would start looking at Nyoni to fill that role more. All in all, a good game,

Nyoni did play well as CDM.
Mamardashvilla was amazing. We likely lose that game if not for him. He made two incredibly saves.
Koumas had played twice I think, and both times his pace and activity has put a lot of pressure on the defense. I don’t think you’ll see big individual goals from him, but he is finding ways to impact the game without scoring that’s for sure.
Isak only played like 5 minutes and made an immediate impact. If there was VAR he would have gotten a PK from a handball after a great first touch move into the box. His play the last few games has been exceptional.
The 2 CB signings have been fantastic. Both guys have had huge impacts thus far.
I’m ok with Kerkez but we need a RB. Conor Bradley just can’t be relied on to play this year. I think that injury was a lot worse than originally thought.
I do think if we had a world class CDM on this team we’d immediately be a legit contender to win everything. I’d like to see Nyoni play a bit more, which means Grav/Mac would play less.

We have looked so much better with Nyoni on the pitch even going back to preseason. Problem is, it’ll end up being a thing like Rio last year, you can’t have someone that young playing so many minutes all season long
It’s still too early but I feel like our best 11 through this very early point in the season is Nyoni and Macca in the pivot with Wirtz as a 10 and Szobo at rb
