Just dropping by to say I liked Suarez today,
did anybody else think he wasn't great today? His goal was fantastic, but the rest of his game seemed off. At the end I kept thinking that if it was normal Suarez today, Liverpool might have run away with it.
Still like the idea of him being wide with Borini in the center but that's just armchair guessing.

Sterling is a complete stud and my man love for Rodgers knows no bounds. Even today when you could see that his system has barely started to take hold, the principles make life really really tough for opposing teams.

Another good analysis, from Zonal Marking

Quick hijack...nice pitching performance vs. my rays the other day. I was less pissed since I knew you're a fellow pool fan/decent guy

Well, the Tevez non-goal earlier was pure luck. But the final couple minutes were stressful, as they were aiming for the dagger. City had their chances.

It seems like a lack of coordination between him and Gerrard on a couple scoring chances. Borini too. I would expect these types of things to be fixed as the season continues on.

I didn't think it was pure luck. He was at a ridiculous angle. It going in would have been the lucky part. We're fortunate nobody followed up though.
And we had chances at the end as well. Better ones I thought. If Andy's header is an inch higher, Coates scores the winner.

A nearly impossible angle. But Tevez put almost enough spin. An inch more and the ball hits the inside of the post and deflects inward for a goal.

Sterling was impressive. If he continues to grow. watch out.

even if he doesn't continue to grow, Downing can gtfo

I hope you all are prepared for a boring arse nil-nil draw next Sunday. We've got not scoring and not conceding down pat!
What's the word on Lucas's injury? It's exciting that Sahin will likely make his EPL bow next week (even if I do wish it was for us). Also exciting to see Sterling in action. Unless we get Rangel this week, he could give Jenkinson a headache.

Good to see you in this thread
Suarez was okay today. Think he would have looked a lot better if Gerrard and Borini were in form.
What can you even say about Sterling? He's 10 years younger than Downing, cost £20m less and is already a better PL player. His first PL start came against the best team in England and he didn't even miss a beat. Loved the video clip where Gerrard was warming up with him before the match just talking to him, motivating him.
Coates
Kelly was also solid. That defensive lapse was unlucky and undeserved.
Shelvey
Borini..I can see the potential. He's obviously still in that transition phase. Hope he gets there soon.
Gerrard played better today. Still nowhere near what we need him to be. He's adapting to BR's system though and that is good.
City..gtfo. They were saying in the other thread that we didn't deserve 3 points, frick that. 6 U22 guys and we should have beaten the defending champs.

Me too. I'm crushing more and more on him every week.

Exactly.

great read on the game
I'm more excited about rodgers than i ever have been. I think he truly will bring back what Liverpool was known for. It may take some time, but you can see it coming, liverpool is going to be back among the best with this man.

Liverpool looked pretty impressive today. Look forward to watching the team coming together in Rogers' system.
I don't know much about him but he impressed me against Roma this summer and again today. It's also cool that he, along with Skrtl and Agger, would be perfect goons for a Jason Statham film.
Borini lacks a bit of top level technical quality, in my opinion, but can be a very nice piece for Liverpool if he gets back to finishing with the consistency he was last season and gets more in groove with the movement of Suarez...
His forte is always going to be his tenacity in creating turnovers in dangerous positions and hustling into the right places to clean up loose balls in the box.

Shelvey WHen you were warming up, I was fricking scared. He held his own and didn't have any stupid giveaways.

He is still very raw. He is very stubborn and let's his emotions get the best of him at times. But there is no denying his ability. Rodgers doesn't seem afraid to play the young guys either, so he should progress nicely.

Yep that is obvious. Still, like I said, I can see the potential. He has been played out wide in every match with Suarez so far, and I would like to see him played in the center. He struggles taking defenders on and creating space for himself.
But his near post run on the Sterling cross was brilliant. I can't think of a single time that run happened last season. He will find a groove and will be a solid player.

Shelvey just seems like your typical talented inconsistent young player to me. I was doing some work at home when I had the Hearts-Liverpool game in the background so I wasn't necessarily paying full attention but he struck me as being borderline terrible. And then today he was pretty good.
I think Suarez cutting in from the left side of a 4-3-3 with Borini up top would be interesting but that leaves Sterling out, unless you play him on the right.
