Let's talk about the A-League (Australia)

They show A-League matches early in the morning. The A-League is fricking horrible. Every team makes DC United look like the Barcelona of a few years ago. No touch, no guile, no speed, nothing. Tom Rogic, who Celtic bought a couple years ago from Australia, has been useless at Celtic (he's slow and weak), but he was sent back on loan to Australia and immediately became the best player at his club.

It's too bad they can't produce anymore Tim Cahill's.
I've only watched a handful of A-League games and I agree, it is pretty bad.

Yeah, but their grand final trophy is pretty sweet. I present to you the majestic toilet seat.

They have some of the same problems that MLS has. I guess they would be where MLS was in their early days. A young league without much talent and having to compete with other established sports (Aussie football and rugby). I do give them credit for getting a sponsor for the league (Hyundai) that's something MLS hasn't done.

Ok, I had to stop at the 3 minute mark. Holy shite that was bad. Like you said, some of those are just atrocious...how do they get paid for that?

I remember that article. Clearly true if you saw the packed stands in that A-league bloopers video...

Emile Heskey made the video

* Correction: An earlier version of this post stated that Mark Viduka, Mark Schwarzer, Lucas Neil, and Ned Zelic returned to Australia to play in the A-League. We regret the error.
Sounds like it was initially well researched

A-league is a lot like early MLS. Hope they improve.

Make MLS more popular by copying the A-League
I hope you linked that article "ironically" because it's absolutely terrible.

Unfortunately, one of those happens at least once a match. For both clubs. The A-League isn't early MLS. I think MLSter should move to Australia.

If I could make a team I wouldn't mind living in Australia.

The league is only ten years old. The level of play might be bad, but the Australian federation has made some really good moves. All the teams average around 10,000 fans per game, which is a fantastic number for a league of that size, competing against three more popular leagues. They've also hired European coaches and that will help develop the technical side of the league. They are poor right now, but let's say that because they are poor right now they won't improve. Evidence and trends of league development in both Japan and the U.S. Would seem to indicate otherwise.

A few years ago I woke up in the middle of the night after falling asleep on the couch. The TV was on FSC and the live A League Grand Final was just starting. First A League game I had ever watched. It was entertaining as hell, even if the level of play was lacking. I believe the Victory beat Sydney FC, if I remember correctly.
